This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

A visible beginning can be real and still be unable to last, because emergence and nourishment are not the same thing.

Something in you can rise quickly and sincerely, yet still draw from too little depth to endure. The verse locates the collapse in an unseen lack of moisture, not in the fact that growth appeared. What is visible at first does not reveal what is sustaining it.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Visible growth does not prove that what has begun is securely sustained.

φυέν

phyen

GROWS FROM

φυ-

phy-

The Greek verb ⁨φύω⁩ (phyo) means to grow or bring forth.

“sprung up” in this verse is phyen. The verb names a real emergence: something comes forth. But the verse distinguishes appearing from enduring, the shoot rises, then dries because it lacks moisture. The word for growth does not itself promise that growth will last.

ALSO GROWS

phyton: plant

φυτόν

This related word names what has grown; the verse shows that a shoot’s appearance alone does not establish what will sustain it.

physis: nature, constitution

φύσις

This word belongs to the same family of coming forth and growing, linking what emerges with the nature it takes on.

Growth endures when it has a sustaining source beneath what can be seen.

Can the rush grow up without mire? can the flag grow without water?
Job 8:11 · KJVThe question makes the hidden source of growth visible: without water, the plant cannot grow.
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.
Jeremiah 17:8 · KJVThe tree remains fruitful through heat and drought because its roots reach a continuing supply.
And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
Matthew 13:6 · KJVThe parallel image joins the quick rise to the hidden absence that leaves it unable to endure.
They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away.
Luke 8:13 · KJV

The explanation names the rocky ground as having no root and shows the brief life falling away under testing. It opens the image of missing moisture as a picture of growth with no hidden supply to sustain it.
