This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Calling the LORD’s table polluted and its provision contemptible is itself the act that profanes it.

This verse exposes a live fracture: a table still identified as the LORD’s is called polluted, and what comes from it is treated as worthless. The words are not neutral descriptions; the verse names them as the act by which the table is profaned. Contemptuous speech changes how the gift and its giver are met.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that contempt is only an opinion with no effect on what is received: here, the contemptuous speech itself profanes the table.

שֻׁלְחָן

shulchan

GROWS FROM

שלח

Send forth, release, stretch out.

English makes the table sound like a static object; its root carries the image of provision sent forth and extended. The verse’s sting is that what is extended from the LORD is called polluted and contemptible: contempt rejects the giver at the point of receiving.

ALSO GROWS

shalach: Send, send forth, release.

שָׁלַח

The table holds the image of what is extended; the verse shows that the speech over this provision can turn receiving into rejection.

Shiloach: Sent-forth waters; the name of the pool of Siloam.

שִׁלֹחַ

The same root links an extended provision to waters that restore sight, sharpening the contrast between provision offered and provision dismissed.

What belongs to God is profaned when it is treated as common, polluted, or contemptible.

Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
Malachi 1:7 · KJVThe table is named contemptible, just as this verse names it polluted and its fruit contemptible.
Her priests have violated my law, and have profaned mine holy things: they have put no difference between the holy and profane, neither have they shewed difference between the unclean and the clean, and have hid their eyes from my sabbaths, and I am profaned among them.
Ezekiel 22:26 · KJVThe holy is profaned when it is treated as though it has no distinction from the common.
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 10:29 · KJVWhat is set apart is dishonored when it is counted common and treated with contempt.
Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible.
Malachi 1:7 · KJV

The same word for “table” appears in both verses. In verse 7 it is called contemptible; here it is called polluted and its fruit contemptible, making the repeated word reveal how contemptuous speech profanes what the table holds.
