What Does Mark 12:43 Mean in the King James?
And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
Jesus measures her gift by what it costs her to release, so the smallest visible amount becomes the greatest offering.
THE MEANING
The verse shows that visible totals do not disclose the full value of a gift: Jesus names the widow as giving more than all. The next verse reveals why, she gives from want, while the others give from abundance. The measure includes what remains in her hand.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
A gift’s worth can be read from its public size or counted amount.
THE ROOT
πλεῖον
pleion
GROWS FROM
πολύς (polys), with comparative stem πλει-
Much or many; in the comparative, more or greater.
The Greek compares the widow’s gift with the whole group, not just with one person. The next verse shows that this comparison includes what each giver has, so “more” reaches beyond the visible sum.
ALSO GROWS
polys: Much, many
πολύς
The underlying word for abundance makes the comparison’s scale visible.
pleistos: Most, greatest
πλεῖστος
This superlative form shares the comparative family and highlights the passage’s reversal of apparent rank.
βέβληκεν
beblēken
GROWS FROM
βαλλ-
ball-
To throw, cast, or put.
The widow and the others are described with forms of the same verb: they all cast gifts into the treasury. What changes the measure is not the act of giving, but what each person gives in relation to what they have.
ALSO GROWS
ekballō: Cast out, drive out
ἐκβάλλω
The same root carries the action of casting beyond the treasury, showing how the verb’s surrounding words specify where the action goes.
epiballō: Lay upon, put on
ἐπιβάλλω
Here too the root’s basic action is to cast or put; in this verse, the gifts are put into the treasury.
THE PATTERN
A gift is measured in relation to what the giver has, not by its visible amount alone.
Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee. For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.THE THREAD
For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living. The same Greek root for “cast” appears in both verses. What changes is the source of the gift: abundance for the others, and all her living from want for the widow.
