What Does Mark 14:62 Mean in the King James?
And Jesus said, I am: and ye shall see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
The analysis reads the King James wording.
King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The Son of Man is both seated at Power’s right hand and coming with heaven’s clouds: enthronement and arrival belong to one figure.
THE MEANING
A visible position does not contain the whole identity of the one you see: the speaker is seated beside Power and coming with heaven’s clouds. Vulnerability and authority can occupy the same person. What is hidden moves into sight.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The verse dissolves the assumption that the person under judgment is the one without authority: the speaker is seen at Power’s right hand.
THE ROOT
δύναμις
dynamis
GROWS FROM
δύναμαι (dynamai), stem δυνα-
To be able; capacity to act.
The Greek word carries the sense of effective capacity, while “Power” also serves here as a reverential name for God. The image is not merely of a title: the Son of Man is seated beside the source of authority.
ALSO GROWS
dynamai: To be able
δύναμαι
This verb makes the root’s sense of capacity explicit.
dynatos: Able, powerful
δυνατός
It shows the same root describing someone with the capacity to act.
dynamoō: To strengthen
δυναμόω
The family also describes power made effective as strength.
ὄψεσθε
opsesthe
GROWS FROM
ὁράω (horaō), with the future form ὄψομαι (opsomai)
To see or perceive.
“see” in this verse is opsesthe. The promised seeing belongs to a family of words for perception and visibility. The claim is that this authority becomes visible, not that it remains only a title to hear.
ALSO GROWS
horaō: To see, perceive
ὁράω
This is the verb behind the future “ye shall see.”
horama: A vision
ὅραμα
It names something perceived in a vision, echoing the verse’s unveiling of heavenly authority.
horatos: Visible
ὁρατός
It describes what can be seen, fitting the movement from hidden authority to sight.
THE PATTERN
Heaven’s authority becomes visible through the cloud-coming human figure, seated beside Power and seen by all.
A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.THE THREAD
I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.Daniel supplies the image behind “Son of man” and “clouds of heaven”: a humanlike figure comes with clouds before the Ancient of Days. Mark places this figure beside Power, joining Daniel’s cloud-borne arrival with the right-hand throne language of Psalm 110.
