This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The apparent ending is anchored by witnesses who know exactly where the body is laid.

You can stay with what is plainly seen even when its meaning is not yet clear: the two women see where Jesus is laid. Their attention gives the scene a precise place, held in view before anything changes. The verse lets witness come before understanding.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that a witness matters only after the whole meaning is clear.

τέθειται

tetheîtai tithēmi

GROWS FROM

τίθημι

To put, place, or set.

The Greek presents Jesus as having been placed there, with the result still in view. “Laid” is a precise placement, and the women see where it happened; the later claim that the tomb is empty has a known location to answer to.

ALSO GROWS

thesis: a placing, position, or setting

θέσις

It makes the shared idea of placement visible in a noun: what is set has a position.

epitithemi: to place or lay upon

ἐπιτίθημι

This compound keeps the same act of placing and adds the sense of something being set upon something else.

paratithemi: to set before; to entrust

παρατίθημι

The same root can describe what is placed before someone or entrusted to their care.

ἐθεώρουν

etheōroun theōreō

GROWS FROM

θεωρέω

To look at or observe attentively.

The Greek imperfect presents their looking as ongoing in the scene. “Beheld” can sound like a passing glance, but this verb holds attention on the place long enough for the women to know where Jesus is laid.

ALSO GROWS

theōria: viewing or observation

θεωρία

It carries the same family’s idea of sustained looking.

theōrētēs: spectator or observer

θεωρητής

It names the person who is present to observe, like the women watching the placement.

Witness begins by attending to what is actually seen, before its full meaning is known.

And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
Exodus 3:3 · KJVMoses first attends to what is before his eyes, while its meaning remains a question.
Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed.
John 20:8 · KJVSeeing the place and what remains there becomes the moment that belief takes shape.
For we can not but speak the things which we have seen and heard.
Acts 4:20 · KJVWhat has been directly seen and heard becomes the ground of testimony.
Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
John 10:17 · KJV

“Lay down” here uses the same Greek verb, ⁨τίθημι⁩ (tithēmi, to put or place), as “laid” in Mark. In one verse the verb names the place where the body rests; in the other, Jesus names the laying down of his life.
