What Does Mark 9:9 Mean in the King James?
And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them that they should tell no man what things they had seen, till the Son of man were risen from the dead.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The mountain’s glory remains unspoken until the Son of Man rises from among the dead, because resurrection opens what the vision means.
THE MEANING
The command sets a boundary around disclosure: the mountain vision remains held until the Son of Man rises from among the dead. The glory seen on the mountain and the passage through death belong together; the rising opens what the vision means.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
Glory can be understood as a spectacle complete in itself, apart from death and rising.
THE ROOT
ἀναστῇ
anastē
GROWS FROM
ἵστημι
histēmi
Stand; set in place. With ἀνά (ana, up), the verb means to stand up or rise.
“risen” in this verse is anastē. The verse’s “rise” is built from ἀνά (ana, up) and ἵστημι (histēmi, stand): to stand up. Its related noun ἀνάστασις (anastasis, rising or resurrection) names the same movement, so the silence ends when the one seen in glory stands up from among the dead. Resurrection is the point at which the vision’s meaning becomes speakable.
ALSO GROWS
histēmi: Stand; set in place.
ἵστημι
This is the verb at the heart of “rise”: what was down or among the dead stands up.
anastasis: Rising; resurrection.
ἀνάστασις
This related noun names the rising that marks the limit of the silence.
exanistēmi: Rise or stand up out of.
ἐξανίστημι
This compound shares the same standing root and makes the movement out from a prior state explicit.
THE PATTERN
The meaning of glory and witness opens through the Son of Man’s rising from among the dead.
And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again. And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.THE THREAD
And they kept that saying with themselves, questioning one with another what the rising from the dead should mean.“The rising” translates ἀνάστασις (anastasis, rising or resurrection), from the same root family as “risen” in this verse. The question reveals the hinge: seeing the mountain vision does not yet make resurrection intelligible.
