What Does Micah 2:5 Mean in the King James?
Therefore thou shalt have none that shall cast a cord by lot in the congregation of the LORD.

THE KEY
In Hebrew, the cord is also the share it measures, so the judgment removes the land-taker’s claim to both territory and belonging.
THE MEANING
A hand that takes another’s place cannot claim a share in the LORD’s assembly as though that claim were secure. The measuring line that marks out a possession also marks who belongs within the community’s inheritance.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that someone can seize another’s place and still treat their own place in the LORD’s assembly as secure.
THE ROOT
חֶבֶל
chevel
GROWS FROM
חבל
A cord or rope; also the measuring line and the territory or share marked out by it.
The Hebrew חֶבֶל (chevel, cord, measuring line, or allotted share) holds the boundary and the portion together: the line does not merely mark land; it determines whose share it is. In this verse, the loss of the cord means the loss of any claim to divide a place within the LORD’s assembly.
ALSO GROWS
chevel: A cord, rope, or measuring line
חֶבֶל
This is the line cast to determine a boundary or allotment.
chevel: A region, portion, or allotted share
חֶבֶל
The measured boundary becomes the very share that the line assigns.
chevel: A share of inheritance
חֶבֶל
The same word can describe an inheritance portion, linking land boundaries with belonging.
THE PATTERN
An allotted share determines who is counted within a community’s inheritance.
The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. For the LORD’s portion is his people; Jacob is the lot of his inheritance. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.THE THREAD
The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.“Lines” here is חֶבֶל (chevel, measuring lines or allotted shares), the same word as Micah’s “cord.” Psalm 16 shows the line as a received inheritance; Micah shows that the same boundary cannot be claimed by those who take another’s share.
