This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The verse turns the Levite’s apparent lack of land into an inheritance whose substance is the LORD himself.

Here, your share is named as the LORD, not as a piece of land held alongside others. What looks like having no inheritance is answered by direct belonging: the LORD himself is your portion. The absence of a landholding remains real, but it does not define the whole of what you receive.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that a life without visible possessions has no inheritance dissolves here: the verse names the LORD himself as an inheritance.

חֶלְקְךָ

ḥelqeḵā

GROWS FROM

חלק

ḥ-l-q

To divide or apportion; to assign a share.

The word for “your portion” comes from the language of apportioning shares. The verse makes a startling claim within that language: the LORD himself is the share assigned to Aaron, rather than land among the other shares.

ALSO GROWS

ḥālaq: To divide or apportion.

חָלַק

This verb exposes the sense of an allotted share carried by “portion.”

ḥelqāh: A parcel or plot of land.

חֶלְקָה

The same root can name a piece of land, making the verse’s contrast between land as a share and the LORD as a share especially vivid.

נַחֲלָתְךָ

naḥalāteḵā

GROWS FROM

נחל

n-ḥ-l

To inherit or take possession; in a causative form, to assign something as an inheritance.

“your inheritance” in this verse is naḥalāteḵā. “Inheritance” names something received as a lasting possession. Here that word is joined to “portion,” and both name the LORD: the inheritance is not merely a benefit from God but God himself as the share received.

ALSO GROWS

nāḥal: To inherit or take possession.

נָחַל

This verb carries the receiving and possessing within the word “inheritance.”

hinḥīl: To cause someone to inherit or assign as an inheritance.

הִנְחִיל

This form shows inheritance as something deliberately given or assigned, echoing the verse’s naming of the LORD as Aaron’s share.

When ordinary possessions do not define the share, the LORD himself is named as the inheritance.

Wherefore Levi hath no part nor inheritance with his brethren; the LORD is his inheritance, according as the LORD thy God promised him.
Deuteronomy 10:9 · KJVThis verse states the same pattern directly: Levi’s inheritance is the LORD where no land share is given.
The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
Psalm 16:5 · KJVThe speaker names the LORD as his portion and inheritance, making belonging itself the received share.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
Hebrews 13:5 · KJVThe promise of the LORD’s presence grounds security beyond the possessions a person holds.
The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
Psalm 16:5 · KJV

The Hebrew word translated “portion” shares the root for an apportioned share with Numbers’ “your portion.” Numbers names the LORD as Aaron’s assigned share; the psalm speaks that same claim in the first person.
