And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of badgers’ skins, and shall put to the staves thereof:

THE KEY
The altar’s hiddenness is not its disappearance; the covering preserves its identity as it is prepared to move.
THE MEANING
What is sacred can pass through a vulnerable interval beneath a covering without ceasing to be present. The golden altar remains itself beneath the blue cloth and skin covering as its poles are set in place for movement. Here, hiddenness holds presence rather than erasing it.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
Out of sight means abandoned or gone.
THE ROOT
מִכְסֶה
mikseh
GROWS FROM
כסה
Cover, conceal.
מִכְסֶה (mikseh) grows from כסה (kāsāh), “to cover”; the verse places the altar beneath layers without removing it. The same consonants appear in forms for covering oneself and being covered, holding both the act and the state of concealment.
ALSO GROWS
kāsāh: To cover, conceal.
כָּסָה
This is the root’s basic verb; the instruction to cover the altar enacts the same seed carried by מִכְסֶה (mikseh), “covering.”
hitkassāh: To cover oneself.
הִתְכַּסָּה
The root can describe a covering that surrounds the one beneath it, showing concealment as a state of being held rather than removed.
mekhusseh: Covered.
מְכֻסֶּה
This form names the condition produced by covering: the altar remains present even when its surface is hidden.
THE PATTERN
A covering can preserve what is sacred while it passes through vulnerability or remains held out of sight.
And thou shalt put therein the ark of the testimony, and cover the ark with the vail. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.THE THREAD
And Moses went up into the mount, and a cloud covered the mount. The Hebrew word for “covered” here uses the same root כסה as מִכְסֶה (mikseh), “covering,” in the altar instruction. One root places a mountain beneath a cloud and an altar beneath skins: in both, what is covered remains present.
