This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

A home is not a neutral container: the verse makes it a place where the LORD’s response to a life takes up residence.

The verse names two present dwelling states: the LORD’s curse is in the wicked person’s house, while the righteous person’s habitation receives blessing. What is lived becomes present in the place where life is housed.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that a person’s way of living can be sealed off from their home: the dwelling itself stands within the reach of the LORD’s judgment and blessing.

יְבָרֵךְ

yevarekh

GROWS FROM

ברך

Bless; a related form of the same consonants means knee.

“blesseth” in this verse is yevarekh. The same consonants form ⁨בֶּרֶךְ⁩ (berekh), “knee,” giving blessing a bodily association with a bent knee. Here the LORD’s blessing is a presence bestowed on a dwelling, not merely an abstract favorable feeling.

ALSO GROWS

berakhah: blessing

בְּרָכָה

This noun from the same root shows the act of blessing in the verse as a gift that can rest upon a habitation.

berekh: knee

בֶּרֶךְ

The knee is a concrete branch of the same consonants, placing blessing beside the image of a bent knee.

נְוֵה

neveh

GROWS FROM

נוה

To dwell or settle; a dwelling or pasture.

The word for “habitation” belongs to a word family that also names pasture. The righteous person’s dwelling therefore carries the image of a settled place of rest and provision, where the blessing reaches the place life rests.

ALSO GROWS

naveh: dwelling, pasture

נָוֶה

This form holds both senses together, so the habitation in the verse can suggest a settled place of provision as well as a house.

ne’ot: pastures

נְאוֹת

This plural form appears in “green pastures” in Psalm 23:2, linking the word family with a place of rest and nourishment.

The source and orientation of a life shape the condition of its dwelling.

The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
Proverbs 14:11 · KJVThe verse again sets the dwelling of the wicked against the dwelling of the upright, and names what becomes of each.
A Song of degrees for Solomon. Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
Psalm 127:1 · KJVThe house and city stand in relation to the LORD’s building and keeping, showing that a dwelling’s security depends on its source.
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Matthew 7:24 · KJVThe house rests on the hearer’s response to Jesus’ words, making the foundation of a life visible in its dwelling.
And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.
Genesis 12:3 · KJV

Both verses use ⁨ברך⁩ (barakh), “bless.” Genesis shows blessing moving through a person and outward among families; Proverbs shows that same blessing reaching the place where a person lives.
