This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Water does not merely pass through the landscape; it becomes the hidden architecture that gives life a home and a voice.

The water moving through the ravines makes a place for the birds to settle, and from that shelter they fill the branches with sound. Provision becomes home, and home becomes song.

יִשְׁכּוֹן

yishkon

GROWS FROM

שכן

to settle in, dwell, make a home

The word for habitation carries the action of settling in. Its branches connect a dwelling place with a neighbor: a home is where presence settles and life becomes near to other life.

ALSO GROWS

mishkan: dwelling place, tabernacle

מִשְׁכָּן

The birds’ habitation grows from the same root as a place made for settled presence.

shakhen: neighbor, one who dwells nearby

שָׁכֵן

The root links being at home with being near; the birds’ shelter makes a living community possible.

יִתְּנוּ קוֹל

yittenu qol

GROWS FROM

נתן

to give, set, place

“sing” in this verse is yittenu qol. The Hebrew phrase is literally that the birds give voice. Their song is something placed into the scene, rising from life that has found shelter.

ALSO GROWS

natan: give, set, place

נָתַן

This is the root beneath the birds’ act of giving voice among the branches.

mattanah: gift

מַתָּנָה

The shared root lets the birdsong read as something given into the habitat, not merely noise within it.

Life’s habitat and song emerge from provision already flowing through the world.

And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
Genesis 2:10 · KJVA river’s flow waters the garden and makes it a place where life can grow.
Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God.
Psalm 84:3 · KJVBirds find a home and nest where their lives can continue.
Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Matthew 6:26 · KJVThe birds’ lives are sustained by provision they do not produce for themselves.
And let them make me a sanctuary; that I may dwell among them.
Exodus 25:8 · KJV

The birds’ habitation and God’s “dwell” share the Hebrew root ⁨שכן⁩ (shakan, to dwell or settle in). The same root that names a creature’s home also names settled presence among people, letting ordinary habitat echo sanctuary.
