This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

Divine care reaches the sickbed itself: it sustains the person and turns the bed beneath them.

The LORD sustains you on the bed of illness, and the whole bed is turned for you within your sickness. Care reaches the place where your body rests; weakness does not place you outside that care.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie this undoes is that you must first get well to be held: the bed of sickness is already a place of sustaining care.

יִסְעָדֶנּוּ

yis'adennu

GROWS FROM

סעד

sa'ad

to support, prop up, sustain

The word rendered “strengthen” carries the sense of being supported or upheld. Its root lets the verse show strength as care that bears someone where they are, rather than a demand that they summon strength for themselves.

ALSO GROWS

tissa'adeni: you sustain me

תִּסְעָדֵנִי

Psalm 18:35 uses this form for the LORD’s hand holding up the speaker, showing the same sustaining action in another image.

se'udah: meal, feast

סְעוּדָה

This related word names provision that sustains; here, sustaining care is directed toward a person lying sick.

הָפַכְתָּ

hafakhta

GROWS FROM

הפך

hafakh

to turn, overturn

“make” in this verse is hafakhta. The verb is literally “you turned,” so the verse holds a concrete act of tending the bed beneath its English phrasing. The same root can name a thorough overturning, though the verse does not say the sickness itself disappears.

ALSO GROWS

hithappekh: to turn oneself over

הִתְהַפֵּךְ

This form keeps bodily turning in view, echoing the intimate work of turning a bed for someone who is ill.

mahpekha: overturning, upheaval

מַהְפֵּכָה

This branch shows the root’s wider reach, from turning a sickbed to a more sweeping change.

Care meets weakness by bearing and tending the vulnerable person where they are.

The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.
Psalm 145:14 · KJVThe LORD’s care is pictured as support and lifting for those who fall or are bowed down.
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you.
Isaiah 46:4 · KJVCare appears as carrying and bearing a person through bodily vulnerability.
And he came and took her by the hand, and lifted her up; and immediately the fever left her, and she ministered unto them.
Mark 1:31 · KJVCare meets illness through bodily presence, a hand held out, and the act of lifting.
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great.
Psalm 18:35 · KJV

“Hath holden me up” uses the same Hebrew root ⁨סעד⁩ (sa’ad, to support or sustain) as “strengthen” here. Psalm 41 gives that support a bedside shape; Psalm 18 pictures it as the LORD’s hand beneath the speaker.
