What Does Psalm 41:6 Mean in the King James?
And if he come to see me, he speaketh vanity: his heart gathereth iniquity to itself; when he goeth abroad, he telleth it.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The heart gathers what the mouth later carries away.
THE MEANING
A person comes near and speaks emptiness while the heart collects harm. What gathers inside does not stay hidden; when the person leaves, it becomes speech again.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The belief this undoes is that someone who comes to see you and speaks with you is necessarily speaking for your good; nearness can conceal harmful intent.
THE ROOT
יִקְבָּץ
yiqbots
GROWS FROM
קבץ
qavats
To gather, collect, or assemble.
“gathereth” in this verse is yiqbots. The heart is pictured as a place that collects harm and takes it in. The verse then shows that this collection leaves with the visitor as speech.
ALSO GROWS
qibbuts: A gathering or collection.
קִבּוּץ
It makes visible the collecting action at the center of the verse.
mequbbats: Gathered or collected.
מְקֻבָּץ
It describes harm as something accumulated within the heart, not merely encountered in passing.
יְדַבֵּר
yedabber
GROWS FROM
דבר
davar
To speak; the related noun can mean a word, matter, or thing.
“speaketh” in this verse is yedabber. The same Hebrew verb appears for the speech at the visit’s beginning and the telling at its end, enclosing the encounter in words. The related noun holds “word” and “matter” together: here, speech gives outward form to what the heart has gathered.
ALSO GROWS
davar: A word, matter, or thing.
דָּבָר
It links speaking with the matter that is being carried outward.
medabber: One who is speaking.
מְדַבֵּר
It names the speaker whose words frame the visit and continue after departure.
THE PATTERN
What the heart accumulates eventually emerges through its speech.
They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak. He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him;A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.THE THREAD
They speak vanity every one with his neighbour: with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak. Both verses use the same Hebrew verb root for speaking, and Psalm 12:2 makes the hidden heart explicit: empty words can come from a divided heart. It opens Psalm 41:6 by showing the inner split behind the speech that continues after the visit.
