What Does Psalm 45:13 Mean in the King James?
The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold.
The analysis reads the King James wording.
King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The king’s daughter’s glory is weighty honor within, while gold clothes it rather than creates it.
THE MEANING
You are shown a royal daughter whose honor is already within her, while goldwork clothes her. The Hebrew can also place her inside the palace, so the image holds inward dignity and royal enclosure together.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
This undoes the belief that ornament creates worth: the daughter’s honor is named before the goldwork of her clothing.
THE ROOT
כְּבוּדָּה
kevuddah
GROWS FROM
כבד
k-b-d
To be heavy or weighty; by extension, to carry honor or significance.
“glorious” in this verse is kevuddah. כְּבוּדָּה (kevuddah, her glory or honor) belongs to the same root family as כָּבוֹד (kavod, weight, honor, glory). Glory here carries the sense of weighty worth, while the gold is its clothing; פְּנִימָה (penimah, within) can also locate her inside the palace.
ALSO GROWS
kāvēd: Heavy, weighty.
כָּבֵד
It reveals the concrete sense beneath “glorious”: her honor has weight, not just shine.
kavod: Weight, honor, glory.
כָּבוֹד
This branch holds the verse’s glory together with the sense of weighty presence.
kibbēd: To honor, to treat as weighty.
כִּבֵּד
The root links honor with the act of giving someone weight and regard.
THE PATTERN
A person’s deepest worth is not created by outward appearance; honor is rooted within.
But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.THE THREAD
And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. Both verses use the כבד (k-b-d) root family: Psalm 45 names the daughter’s כְּבוּדָּה (kevuddah, her glory or honor), while Exodus names כָּבוֹד (kavod, weighty honor or glory). Together they show garments giving visible form to a quality the text describes as weighty.
