What Does Psalm 75:10 Mean in the King James?
All the horns of the wicked also will I cut off; but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
The analysis reads the King James wording.
King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse relocates power: the wicked horn is cut off, while the aligned horn is raised.
THE MEANING
The force of the wicked is cut down, and the strength of the aligned is lifted. The repeated image of the horn shows that strength is not simply erased; the verse shows it being stripped from one side and raised on the other. This judgment speaks now wherever oppressive power loses its reach and aligned strength becomes visible.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie that ruthless power is untouchable dissolves here: its horn is cut off, while the aligned are raised.
THE ROOT
קַרְנֵי
qarnê
GROWS FROM
קרן
q-r-n
Horn; the projecting point, with a related verb for emitting rays.
“horns” in this verse is qarnê. Here the horn is an image of strength that projects outward. The same consonants also appear in a Hebrew verb for shining or sending out rays, so the image can hold force and visible radiance together.
ALSO GROWS
qeren: Horn; by extension, strength or power.
קֶרֶן
The same word names the force assigned to both the wicked and the aligned; what changes is whether that force is cut off or raised.
qaran: To shine or emit rays.
קָרַן
This related form describes light projecting outward, adding a sense of strength becoming visible.
תְּרוֹמַמְנָה
teromamnah
GROWS FROM
רום
r-w-m
To rise, be high, or lift up.
“exalted” in this verse is teromamnah. The verb gives the aligned horn an upward movement: it is raised into prominence. Beside the cut-down horns, it makes the verse’s reversal a matter of direction, one force brought low, the other lifted.
ALSO GROWS
marom: Height or a high place.
מָרוֹם
It carries the same root’s sense of being elevated, clarifying the upward force of the verb.
terumah: A contribution or portion set aside.
תְּרוּמָה
This noun belongs to the same lift-and-raise root family, echoing the movement toward what is elevated or set apart.
צַדִּיק
tsaddiq
GROWS FROM
צדק
ts-d-q
Justice and rightness; being aligned with what is just.
“righteous” in this verse is tsaddiq. The raised horn belongs to the tsaddiq, the person described through alignment with justice. The root makes the basis for that raised strength concrete: it is joined to right relation, not merely a title or status.
ALSO GROWS
tsedeq: Justice or rightness.
צֶדֶק
It names the quality that gives the aligned person’s description its substance.
tzedakah: Righteousness or justice, including acts of charitable justice.
צְדָקָה
It shows the root extending from a person’s alignment into just action.
THE PATTERN
Judgment cuts down the force of the wicked and lifts strength aligned with justice.
The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed. The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.THE THREAD
And it came to pass, when Moses came down from mount Sinai with the two tables of testimony in Moses’ hand, when he came down from the mount, that Moses wist not that the skin of his face shone while he talked with him.The Hebrew verb translated “shone” is קָרַן (qaran), built on the same q-r-n consonants as “horn.” The Psalm’s horn marks projecting strength; this related word shows the same root-shape describing radiance made visible.
