What Does Revelation 10:1 Mean in the King James?
And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:

THE KEY
The sky itself is carried down in the messenger’s body: cloud, rainbow, sun, and fire become one descending sign.
THE MEANING
You see heaven’s signs gathered onto a descending messenger: cloud clothes him, a rainbow rests on his head, sunlight fills his face, and fire supports his feet. The vision makes the distance between above and below visible in one body.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
Heaven’s presence can only be distant and formless.
THE ROOT
ἄγγελος
angelos
GROWS FROM
ἀγγελ-
angel-
announce, report
The word names an envoy through the act of carrying a report; the person is legible by what is sent through him. Here, the messenger’s body bears the vision’s signs, so message and messenger meet in the same figure.
ALSO GROWS
angellō: announce, report
ἀγγέλλω
The related verb makes the messenger’s role active: something is being carried into view.
angelia: message, report
ἀγγελία
The related noun names what a messenger carries, linking the figure to the content being revealed.
ἰσχυρόν
ischyron
GROWS FROM
ἰσχυρ-
ischyr-
strength, force, capacity to prevail
“mighty” in this verse is ischyron. The word belongs to a family of strength and ability. The messenger’s radiance and fire are therefore joined to force: this is not a distant display but a presence arriving with power.
ALSO GROWS
ischys: strength, force
ἰσχύς
The noun makes explicit the strength carried by the description “mighty.”
ischyō: be strong, be able
ἰσχύω
The related verb gives strength the sense of active capacity, fitting a figure who descends into the scene.
THE PATTERN
Heavenly presence becomes perceptible through a body marked by cloud, radiance, and fire.
And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.THE THREAD
As the appearance of the bow that is in the cloud in the day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness round about. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell upon my face, and I heard a voice of one that spake. The bow in the cloud and the brightness around it reappear in Revelation’s messenger, where cloud, rainbow, sunlight, and fire gather into one figure. Ezekiel’s vision lets you see the messenger as a sky-sign made bodily.
