What Does Revelation 4:8 Mean in the King James?
And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.

THE KEY
The throne is ringed by living creatures whose many eyes and unbroken refrain turn attention into a continual naming of God’s set-apartness.
THE MEANING
You stand within a vision of God whose presence spans what was, what is, and what is coming. The four living creatures are full of eyes even within, and they do not pause their threefold declaration: set apart. The scene holds unbroken seeing and unbroken praise together before you now.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
God exists only in the past or in a future still out of reach; the verse names God as the One who is between what was and what is coming.
THE ROOT
ἅγιος
hagios
GROWS FROM
ἁγι-
hagi-
Set apart, sacred.
“Holy” in this verse is hagios. The word’s family includes both the act of setting apart and that resulting state. In this refrain, the threefold repetition makes God’s set-apartness the central thing the creatures continually perceive and declare.
ALSO GROWS
hagiazō: To set apart, consecrate.
ἁγιάζω
This verb shows the same word family describing the act of setting apart, which the creatures name here as God’s nature.
hagiasmos: Setting apart, consecration.
ἁγιασμός
This noun carries the same idea as a continuing condition, giving depth to the creatures’ repeated declaration.
ζῷα
zōa
GROWS FROM
ζω-
zō-
Living, being alive.
Behind “beasts” stands a Greek word meaning living creatures, from the live-and-life word family. Their name emphasizes life, while their many eyes and ceaseless voice show that life as alert, active presence.
ALSO GROWS
záō: To live, be alive.
ζάω
This verb shares the living root behind the creatures’ name.
zōē: Life.
ζωή
This noun makes the life-word family visible in the creatures’ identity.
παντοκράτωρ
pantokratōr
GROWS FROM
κρατ-
krat-
Power, dominion, ability to prevail.
“Almighty” in this verse is pantokratōr. The title gathers all things under ruling power. The creatures’ unceasing declaration names the One whose dominion spans what was, what is, and what is coming.
ALSO GROWS
kratos: Might, power, dominion.
κράτος
This noun names the power carried in the title given to God.
krateō: To hold power, prevail, rule.
κρατέω
This verb shows the active force behind the title: power that holds sway.
THE PATTERN
Throne visions portray divine presence as fully awake, surrounded by watchful attendants and unbroken declaration.
Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And their whole body, and their backs, and their hands, and their wings, and the wheels, were full of eyes round about, even the wheels that they four had.Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.THE THREAD
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. The title rendered “Almighty” here is the same word used in Revelation 1:8, and the time-spanning declaration returns with it. Here the living creatures voice it; there, it stands in the Lord’s own declaration at the opening of the vision.
