King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The verse turns an inner struggle into a contest of sovereignties: whatever reigns determines whether its path ends in death or opens into life.
THE MEANING
Missing has a reign that carries toward death, yet favor also reigns through alignment into the life of the ages. Through Jesus, the Anointed One, whose name יֵשׁוּעַ (Yeshua, deliverance) carries the movement from constriction toward spaciousness, this reign opens life beyond death’s dominion. The verse speaks now of a change in what governs a life and where that rule leads.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie is that missing and death have the final authority over the reader’s future. This verse names favor’s reign through alignment as a living path into the life of the ages.
THE ROOT
βασιλεύσῃ
basileusē
GROWS FROM
βασιλ-
King; royal rule.
The verb for reigning belongs to the same word family as king and kingdom, revealing rule as more than a passing action. Missing and favor each exercise real authority, and the verse identifies each reign by what it brings forth.

χάρις
charis
GROWS FROM

δικαιοσύνης
dikaiosynēs
GROWS FROM
δικαι-
What is right or just; alignment.
“righteousness” in this verse is dikaiosynēs. The δικαι- family links what is just or right with the act of setting right. Here favor reigns through this alignment, carrying its rule toward the life of the ages.

THE PATTERN
The power that rules carries life toward the outcome built into its reign.
If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.THE THREAD
For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)The same βασιλ- (basil-, king and royal rule) word family appears here: death reigns, while those receiving favor and the gift of alignment reign in life. It opens 5:21’s compact contrast into a transfer of dominion, with life as the sphere of the new reign.
