This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

“Planted together” means “grown together”: the verse describes Christ’s death and resurrection as two forms of one shared life.

You share in a growth joined to Christ’s death, and the verse says you will also share in the likeness of his resurrection. Death is real in that union, but it does not define its final form.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that death is the only reality you share with Christ: the same union reaches into resurrection.

σύμφυτοι

sýmphytoi

GROWS FROM

φύω

phýō

To grow, spring up, or bring forth.

“planted together” in this verse is sýmphytoi. English “planted” can sound like placement in soil, while ⁨σύμφυτοι⁩ (sýmphytoi) carries the sense “grown together.” The verse pictures shared life with Christ as an organic joining: the likeness of his death is its present shape, and resurrection its coming shape.

ALSO GROWS

phytón: Plant; something that has grown.

φυτόν

This branch keeps the verse’s image grounded in living growth, rather than a likeness that is merely observed from outside.

phýsis: Nature; a thing’s developed character or way.

φύσις

This same growth family connects the verse to images of belonging to a living whole, like a branch grafted into a tree.

In scripture, passage through death becomes a way God brings forth life.

After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.
Hosea 6:2 · KJVThe verse holds revival, being raised, and renewed life together as the movement through death.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.
John 12:24 · KJVThe grain’s death becomes the passage through which abundant life and fruit emerge.
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
1 Corinthians 15:22 · KJVThe verse places death and being made alive within two shared human realities.
For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
Romans 11:24 · KJV

Romans 11:24 uses ⁨φύσις⁩ (phýsis, “nature”), from the same ⁨φύω⁩ (phýō, “grow”) family as ⁨σύμφυτοι⁩ (sýmphytoi, “grown together”). Its grafted-branch image gives shared growth another form: belonging to a living whole, not merely resembling it.
