This verse in the Selah Decoded Version

The verse does not say everything is good; it says everything works together toward good.

Even when circumstances remain painful or unresolved, they are not beyond the movement toward good for you as one who loves God and is called according to his purpose. The verse names the direction of their joined working; it does not call every event good.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that suffering must itself be good for good to come through it.

συνεργεῖ

synergei

GROWS FROM

ἔργον

ergon

Work, deed, or action; ⁨συνεργεῖ⁩ combines this with ⁨σύν⁩ (syn), “together.”

“work together” in this verse is synergei. The Greek verb presents things as working together toward good; “good” names their direction, not a verdict on every event. Its ⁨ἔργον⁩ root also appears in words for working and work, revealing active operation beneath the English phrase.

ALSO GROWS

ergon: work, deed

ἔργον

The shared root makes the verse’s movement concrete: things are at work, not simply declared good.

energeō: to be at work, operate

ἐνεργέω

This related verb appears in Ephesians 1:11 as “worketh,” echoing the active working of God’s purpose.

synergos: fellow worker, helper

συνεργός

The same “together-work” formation names one who works with another, reinforcing the sense of joined action.

God can turn what is meant for harm toward good without making the harm itself good.

But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
Genesis 50:20 · KJVThe verse holds the harm and its intended good together: the harm remains evil, while its outcome serves life.
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Ephesians 1:11 · KJVIt describes all things as working according to a purpose, echoing Romans’ picture of joined action moving toward good.
In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Ephesians 1:11 · KJV

Romans uses ⁨συνεργεῖ⁩ (synergei, “works together”), while Ephesians uses ⁨ἐνεργέω⁩ (energeō, “works”); both words carry the root ⁨ἔργον⁩ (ergon, “work”). Together they show purpose as active working through all things, not a claim that every part is good in itself.
