What Does Zechariah 9:11 Mean in the King James?
As for thee also, by the blood of thy covenant I have sent forth thy prisoners out of the pit wherein is no water.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The covenant’s blood does not merely mark the bound; it sends them out of the place where life has run dry.
THE MEANING
The verse speaks to you from within any place that feels sealed and waterless: the covenant holds an opening outward for the bound. The pit is real, and its barrenness is named plainly; it does not define where the movement ends.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
It undoes the belief that being bound in a life-empty place means you have been abandoned there: the verse places covenantal release precisely at the pit.
THE ROOT
שִׁלַּחְתִּי
shillachti
GROWS FROM
שלח
send, send forth, release
The verb names an outward movement: those bound are sent beyond the pit, and their release is expressed as being sent forth. Shiloach (שִׁלֹחַ, Shiloach, “sent forth”) carries the same root, linking sending with release.
ALSO GROWS
Shiloach: The name of a spring or pool; “sent forth.”
שִׁלֹחַ
Its name carries the same root of sending that describes the prisoners’ movement out of the pit.
shilluach: A sending away or release.
שִׁלּוּחַ
This branch makes the verse’s “sent forth” movement visible as a sending away from confinement.
אֲסִירַיִךְ
asirayikh
GROWS FROM
אסר
bind, tie
The Hebrew word for “prisoners” comes from “bind”; it describes their condition as a fastening, not merely their address. Set beside shalach, the verse’s movement is clear: what binds does not get the final word, the bound are sent out.
ALSO GROWS
asir: One who is bound or held captive.
אָסִיר
It names the bound person whom the verse says is sent forth.
ma’asar: Bondage or confinement.
מַאֲסָר
It points to the binding condition from which the verse describes an outward movement.
THE PATTERN
Covenant release reaches the bound in places where confinement has cut off movement and sustaining life.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.THE THREAD
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;Isaiah uses the same Hebrew root אסר (asar, “bind”) for the captives: Zechariah’s “prisoners” and Isaiah’s “captives” are both the bound ones. Isaiah names liberty and an opened prison; Zechariah shows those bound being sent out from the pit.
