Before the decree bring forth, before the day pass as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD come upon you, before the day of the LORD’s anger come upon you.

King James Version The King James Version, first published in 1611. Selah Verse shows the standard text.
THE KEY
The decree is already giving birth while the day passes like chaff: what is appointed is moving toward arrival as the interval runs out.
THE MEANING
The decree is pictured as giving birth, while the day itself passes like chaff and the LORD’s burning anger comes upon you. The repeated “before” places you in a narrowing interval as what is appointed moves toward arrival.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The belief that judgment is only an idea with no arrival dissolves here: the decree gives birth, and the day is already passing.
THE ROOT
לֶדֶת
ledet
GROWS FROM
ילד
y-l-d
To give birth, bear, or beget.
“bring forth” in this verse is ledet. Hebrew uses לֶדֶת (ledet) from ילד (yalad, give birth), with “decree” as what gives birth. The decree is pictured as bearing an outcome that enters the open; the repeated “before” marks the last stretch before its arrival.
ALSO GROWS
yalad: To give birth or bear.
יָלַד
This is the verb behind the verse’s birth image: the decree itself is presented as bringing forth what is appointed.
yeled: Child.
יֶלֶד
The same root names the result of birth, linking the decree to an outcome that is coming into view.
חֲרוֹן אַף
charon af
GROWS FROM
חרה
ch-r-h
To burn or become hot.
“fierce anger” in this verse is charon af. חָרוֹן (charon, burning anger) comes from חרה (charah, burn or be hot), while אַף (af, nose and anger) carries the image of the burning nostril. Together the words give the anger that comes upon you a heat and force that an abstract label can hide.
ALSO GROWS
charah: To burn, become hot, or be angry.
חָרָה
The verb shows the heat at the root of the verse’s word for fierce anger.
chori: Heat or burning anger.
חֳרִי
This related form keeps the same burning quality audible in the verse’s image of anger arriving.
THE PATTERN
When the appointed day arrives, Scripture pictures what cannot endure as chaff carried away.
The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. They are as stubble before the wind, and as chaff that the storm carrieth away.Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.THE THREAD
And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.The verb “bare” comes from ילד (yalad, give birth), the same root as לֶדֶת (ledet, giving birth) in Zephaniah. Here the decree is given the grammar of birth: what is appointed comes into view as an outcome.
