Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
And the priest shall take the lamb of the trespass offering, and the log of oil, and the priest shall wave them for a wave offering before the LORD:

The Hebrew name for the trespass offering holds guilt and the offering for guilt in one word: the burden it answers is carried into the presentation itself.

Responsibility comes into view before the LORD: the lamb and measured oil are presented together, in motion. The offering is a bodily act of bringing what answers liability into the open.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that guilt must be hidden before anyone can come near the LORD dissolves here: the offering is brought before the LORD while it is still named for guilt.

אָשָׁם

ʾāšām

GROWS FROM

א־ש־ם

ʾ-š-m

To incur guilt or become liable; the related noun also names guilt and a reparation offering.

“guilt offering” in this verse is ʾāšām. The same root names both the liable state and the offering associated with it. The lamb’s name therefore carries the burden it addresses into a visible presentation before the LORD.

ALSO GROWS

ʾāshēm: Guilty, liable

אָשֵׁם

This form describes the state of being accountable, linking the offering to the liability it addresses.

ʾashmāh: Guilt, culpability

אַשְׁמָה

This noun makes explicit the guilt held inside the name of the offering.

תְּנוּפָה

tenūp̄āh

GROWS FROM

נ־ו־ף

n-w-p

To move to and fro, swing, or wave.

English separates “wave” from “wave offering” into an action and a ritual label; Hebrew repeats the root ⁨נוף⁩ in both. The objects are not simply handed over: they are moved before the LORD.

ALSO GROWS

hēnîp̄: To wave or swing

הֵנִיף

This is the priest’s action in the verse, bringing the objects into motion.

tenūp̄āh: Waving; a wave offering

תְּנוּפָה

The offering’s name comes from the same root as the priest’s action, making the gesture part of what the offering is.

What is offered is brought into God’s presence through deliberate, embodied presentation.

You set all in the hands of Aaron, and in the hands of his sons, and you wave them for a wave offering before the LORD.
Exodus 29:24 · SDVThe priest waves what has been placed in Aaron’s and his sons’ hands, presenting it before the LORD through the same embodied gesture.
Let my prayer be set before you as smoke, and the lifting of my palms as the evening offering.
Psalm 141:2 · SDVPrayer and lifted hands become a present offering, joining inward words to a visible gesture before God.
Therefore I urge you, brothers, through the compassions of God, to set your bodies beside God as a living sacrifice, set apart, well-pleasing to him, which is your true service.
Romans 12:1 · SDVThe body itself is presented to God, extending the pattern of embodied offering beyond a single ritual object.
You set all in the hands of Aaron, and in the hands of his sons, and you wave them for a wave offering before the LORD.
Exodus 29:24 · SDV

The verb “wave” and the noun “wave offering” in both passages come from ⁨נוף⁩ (nuph), meaning to swing or move to and fro. Exodus makes the same gesture part of priestly consecration, revealing a shared language for what is brought before the LORD.
