This verse in the King James

King James wording
Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.

The bread is renewed every Sabbath, yet its presence is called continual: here, permanence is a rhythm of return.

The bread is arranged anew each Sabbath and remains continually before the LORD. This is a shared covenant act, drawn from the children of Israel. The verse holds renewal and continuity together: what is continually present is set in order again.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the assumption that what is continual must be static: here the bread remains continual through a repeated Sabbath setting.

יַעֲרְכֶנּוּ

ya'arikhenu

GROWS FROM

עָרַךְ

To arrange, set in a row, or put in order.

“arrange it” in this verse is ya'arikhenu. English “set it in order” can sound like putting something away neatly. The root also names an ordered array, so the bread’s continual presence is carried by deliberate arrangement.

ALSO GROWS

ma'arekhet: An arrangement or ordered array.

מַעֲרֶכֶת

In 1 Chronicles 9:32, the shewbread is called the bread of the arrangement, linking the bread itself to its ordered setting.

ma'arakhah: An array or formation, including a battle formation.

מַעֲרָכָה

The same root can describe forces drawn into formation; here, too, the bread is intentionally arrayed before the LORD, not simply stored.

שַׁבָּת

shabbat

GROWS FROM

שָׁבַת

To cease or stop.

The verse pairs stopping with setting: the bread is ordered within the recurring Sabbath pause. The root makes that pause the frame in which continual presence is maintained.

ALSO GROWS

shavat: To cease or stop working.

שָׁבַת

This is the verb from which Sabbath is named; the weekly arrangement takes place within a rhythm of stopping.

shabbaton: A Sabbath rest or solemn cessation.

שַׁבָּתוֹן

This related word makes the pause explicit: Sabbath is a recurring interval of cessation, not an unbounded stop.

Continual presence is maintained through recurring acts of ordered offering.

And you set upon the table the bread of the face before me always.
Exodus 25:30 · SDVThe bread is placed before God as an ongoing offering, echoing the continual presence in Leviticus.
And others of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the bread of the rows, to arrange it every sabbath.
1 Chronicles 9:32 · SDVThe bread’s continual place is sustained through a shared act repeated every Sabbath.
Through him, then, let us always carry up a sacrifice of praise to God, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to his name.
Hebrews 13:15 · SDVA different offering follows the same pattern of something continually presented before God.
And others of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the bread of the rows, to arrange it every sabbath.
1 Chronicles 9:32 · SDV

The Hebrew names the shewbread with the same root as “set it in order”: it is the bread of the arrangement. This link makes the ordering part of the bread’s identity, while the verse shows its Sabbath renewal entrusted to a shared service.
