King James wording
King James Version
And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commanded that ye should do: and the glory of the LORD shall appear unto you.THE KEY
Kavod makes the LORD’s glory a weight that becomes visible to the people.
THE MEANING
This verse places the LORD’s command and its enactment before a promised appearance of the LORD’s kavod (כָּבוֹד, kavod: weight). The appearance is divine weight made perceptible. Its “unto you” speaks directly to the reader now.
THE ROOT
כָּבוֹד
kavod
GROWS FROM
כבד
To be heavy; to carry weight.
Kavod holds weight and honor together beneath the English word “glory.” Here, the LORD’s weight becomes perceptible as the LORD appears to the people.
ALSO GROWS
kaved: Heavy; weighty.
כָּבֵד
This is the concrete sense carried into kavod, making “glory” something perceptible.
kibbed: To honor; to treat as weighty.
כִּבֵּד
Honor is the relational branch of weight: a person or presence is given significance.
THE PATTERN
The LORD’s kavod (כָּבוֹד, kavod: weight) becomes perceptible among people and within their dwelling.
And the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the weight of the LORD filled the dwelling. And when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from the heavens and devoured the rising offering and the sacrifices, and the weight of the LORD filled the house. And the word became flesh and pitched a tent among us, and we beheld his weight, the weight as of the only-born from the Father, full of favor and truth.THE THREAD
And Moses and Aaron came into the tent of meeting, and came out, and blessed the people; and the weight of the LORD was seen by all the people. The same kavod (כָּבוֹד, kavod: weight) named in verse 6 appears again as Moses and Aaron come out and bless the people. The promise of an appearance “unto you” becomes visible “unto all the people.”
