This verse in the King James

King James wording
And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.

Increase here is not shared outward: what is removed from one is concentrated in the hands already holding ten.

An entrusted share is taken from one person and handed to another who already holds ten. The verse exposes possession as conditional and increase as concentrated rather than evenly distributed.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that simply possessing what is entrusted makes it permanently secure: here, the amount can be taken away and added to someone who already has more.

ἄρατε

arate

GROWS FROM

αἴρω

airō

To lift up, take up, or remove.

“Lift” in this verse is arate. The English “take” can sound like a neutral transfer, but ⁨αἴρω⁩ carries both lifting something up and removing it. The transfer begins with an amount being lifted out of one person’s keeping and made available to another.

ALSO GROWS

epairō: Lift up; raise.

ἐπαίρω

This branch keeps the lifting sense visible: the action moves something from its present position.

exairō: Take out; remove.

ἐξαίρω

This branch makes the removal explicit, matching the mina’s departure from the servant’s keeping.

What one person gathers or leaves unfruitful can pass into the keeping of someone else, concentrating what is held rather than distributing it evenly.

Lift the talent from him, and give it to the one who has ten talents. For to everyone who has, more is given, and he overflows; but from the one who has not, even what he has is lifted away.
Matthew 25:28-29 · SDVThe talent is removed from one person and added to the ten already held by another, stating the same concentration of increase.
For God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to the person who is good before him. But to the one who misses the mark, he gives the task of gathering and heaping up, to give to the one who is good before God. This too is vapor and a herding of breath.
Ecclesiastes 2:26 · SDVOne person gathers and heaps up, but what is gathered ultimately passes into another’s keeping.
Jesus said, Lift away the stone. Martha, sister of the one who had died, said to him, Lord, by now he stinks, for he has been dead four days.
John 11:39 · SDV

John uses the same verb for removing the stone from Lazarus’s tomb. Here that same movement removes the servant’s mina from his keeping, though the removal serves a restorative scene there and records economic loss here.
