Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed.

The Greek verb rendered “healed” here is the same one rendered “made thee whole” two verses later: in this scene, healing is deliverance from what possesses him.

The witnesses see a man freed from demonic possession, and they can tell how it happens. The word translated “healed” also carries the sense of being delivered and brought safely out. What held him is part of the report, but it is no longer the whole of who he is.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that demonic possession fixes a person’s identity and makes restoration impossible is undone here: witnesses now tell how that same person is delivered.

ἐσώθη

esōthē

GROWS FROM

σῴζω

sōzō

Rescue, preserve, bring safely out.

“delivered” in this verse is esōthē. Here ⁨ἐσώθη⁩ is the passive form of ⁨σῴζω⁩: to be rescued or brought safely out. The same word family gives Greek words for deliverance and deliverer, so “healed” carries the shape of an exit from what held this man.

ALSO GROWS

sōtēria: Deliverance, rescue.

σωτηρία

This branch makes explicit the deliverance carried within the verb describing the man’s healing.

sōtēr: Deliverer, rescuer.

σωτήρ

The word for a deliverer shares the same root, linking the man’s changed condition to being brought out.

Healing and deliverance appear as one movement: a person is brought out from what held them into restored life.

He sends his word and heals them, and slips them free from their pits.
Psalm 107:20 · SDVHealing is paired directly with deliverance from what destroys, making restoration an emergence from bondage.
The breath of the LORD is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the emptied. He has sent me to heal the shattered in heart, to herald release to the captives, and the return of sight for the blind, to send the crushed away into release.
Luke 4:18 · SDVHealing and liberty for captives stand together as parts of the same restoring work.
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Set-Apart Breath and with power, who went through, doing good and healing all who were pressed down by the Slanderer, for God was with him.
Acts 10:38 · SDVHealing meets the force of oppression directly, as it does when the man is freed from demons.
And he said to her, Daughter, take heart. Your trust has delivered you. Go into wholeness.
Luke 8:48 · SDV

Luke uses the same verb, ⁨σῴζω⁩ (sōzō, deliver or bring safely out), when Jesus says the woman’s faith has “made thee whole.” The shared root places the man’s release from demons and the woman’s restoration under the same movement: a person is brought out from what held them.
