King James wording
King James Version
And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.THE KEY
Before any teaching or healing begins, the news of his presence is already moving beyond the house.
THE MEANING
When he enters the house again, the news is heard and the place cannot remain private. The verse holds you at the threshold, where hearing about his presence begins to draw people toward encounter.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
This loosens the belief that a meaningful encounter begins only after a visible wonder: here, the report of his presence is already drawing attention.
THE ROOT
ἠκούσθη
ēkousthē
GROWS FROM
ἀκου- (akou-), from ἀκούω (akouō)
To hear or listen.
The Greek verb here means “was heard,” so the movement begins in hearing about his presence. What English calls “noised” becomes a report received and passed on, making the house a point of attention before anything else happens.
ALSO GROWS
akoē: Hearing; a report.
ἀκοή
This noun from the same word family shows how what is heard can carry news beyond its source.
hypakouō: To listen; to obey.
ὑπακούω
This compound verb joins hearing with response, revealing how hearing can move beyond reception into action.
THE PATTERN
A heard word of presence gathers people and carries them toward response.
Especially the day you stood before the LORD your God in Horeb, when the LORD said to me, Assemble the people to me, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn awe of me all the days they live upon the earth, and that they may train their children. At that very hour I sent to you; and you have done well in coming alongside. Now, then, we are all here before God, to hear all that has been commanded you by the Lord.So then trust comes out of hearing, and hearing comes through the word of God.THE THREAD
So then trust comes out of hearing, and hearing comes through the word of God.Mark’s “noised” comes from ἀκούω (akouō), “to hear”; Romans uses ἀκοή (akoē), “hearing,” from the same word family. Mark shows the report of his presence beginning to spread, while Romans shows hearing as the way a word is received.
