This verse in the King James

King James wording
And when she was come to her house, she found the devil gone out, and her daughter laid upon the bed.

The daughter remains when the demon leaves: the affliction is not the person.

The daughter is still there, lying on the bed, while the demon has gone out. The verse holds those two realities apart: what afflicts her departs, and she remains. Her presence on the bed is what her mother finds after the departure.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The daughter is not identical to what torments her; the verse names them separately, and one leaves while the other remains.

GROWS FROM

ἐρχ-

erch-

To come or go; the prefix ⁨ἐξ-⁩ (ex-) gives the movement its outward direction.

The word translated “gone out” is a completed form of ⁨ἐξέρχομαι⁩ (exérchomai, to go out or depart). This verb family can describe entering, leaving, or passing through, depending on its prefix; here the direction is clear, the demon departs, while the daughter remains.

ALSO GROWS

exérchomai: To go out, depart

ἐξέρχομαι

The prefix ⁨ἐξ-⁩ marks the outward movement in this verse.

eisérchomai: To go in, enter

εἰσέρχομαι

With a different prefix, the same verb marks movement inward, the opposite direction.

diérchomai: To pass through

διέρχομαι

This compound shows the verb’s broader sense of movement across a boundary.

The departure of an afflicting spirit is distinct from the person it had afflicted, who remains.

And it came to pass, when the harmful breath from God was upon Saul, that David took the harp and played with his hand, and Saul breathed freely again, and was well, and the harmful breath turned aside from him.
1 Samuel 16:23 · SDVThe spirit departs from Saul, who remains and is refreshed.
And the unclean breath, having convulsed him, cried out with a loud voice, and came out of him.
Mark 1:26 · SDVThe spirit comes out of the man; the verse distinguishes the one who departs from the one left behind.
And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be muzzled, and come out of him. And when the demon had thrown him into the midst, it came out of him, and did not hurt him.
Luke 4:35 · SDVThe spirit comes out of the man, who remains unharmed.
And he said to her, For this word, go your way. The demon has gone out of your daughter.
Mark 7:29 · SDV

The previous verse already names the departure; this verse shows the mother finding her daughter after it. Both use ⁨ἐξέρχομαι⁩ (exérchomai, to go out), linking the announced change with what she sees.
