This verse in the King James

King James wording
When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

Before judgment is pronounced, a private dream drives a warning into the seat of power, and the warning names Jesus as just.

The warning comes through a dream, and the wife names Jesus as “that just man.” Her distress enters the governor’s household while he sits in judgment. The verse holds public authority beside testimony that presses against its decision.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The lie that the person in the judgment seat can treat the case as self-contained dissolves: a warning reaches him before he decides.

δικαίῳ

dikaiōi

GROWS FROM

δικ-

dik-

Rightness and justice; alignment with what is right.

The Greek calls Jesus “the just one” (dikaios), from a word family that also names justice and the act of declaring someone just. The same root holds together a person’s character and the recognition of right alignment, placing that recognition at the center of a judgment.

ALSO GROWS

dikaiosynē: Righteousness, justice; alignment.

δικαιοσύνη

The shared root connects the description of Jesus as just with the broader quality of right alignment.

dikaioō: To justify, declare just; to align.

δικαιόω

This branch names the act of recognizing someone as just, echoing the wife’s warning before the governor’s decision.

A dream can carry warning from private distress into a consequential decision.

But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, Behold, you are a dead man, for the woman whom you took is held by a husband.
Genesis 20:3 · SDVA dream warns a ruler before he acts, bringing hidden danger into the decision before him.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls upon men, in slumber upon the bed. Then he uncovers the ears of men, and seals their straightening.
Job 33:15-16 · SDVThe passage presents a dream as a moment when instruction opens human ears and becomes consequential.
When they had withdrawn, look, a messenger of the LORD appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, Rise, take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I bring you word, for Herod will seek the young child to make him perish.
Matthew 2:13 · SDVA dream carries a warning that changes a family’s response to a ruler’s threatened action.
When Pilate saw that he gained nothing, but that instead an uproar was rising, he took water and washed his hands before the crowd, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this aligned man. You see to it.
Matthew 27:24 · SDV

The same ⁨δικ-⁩ word family appears in “this just person,” repeating the quality Pilate’s wife names here. The root’s echo brings her warning back into public view from the very seat of power.
