This verse in the King James

King James wording
After him repaired Binnui the son of Henadad another piece, from the house of Azariah unto the turning of the wall, even unto the corner.

Binnui (⁨בִּנּוּי⁩, Binnûy, “building”) strengthens one measured section all the way to the corner where the wall changes direction.

Your repair takes a defined shape: you strengthen one portion from the house of Azariah (⁨עֲזַרְיָה⁩, ʿAzaryāh, “Yah has helped”) until it meets the wall’s turning corner. The turn belongs to the structure as much as the straight run does; the wall holds as its sections join.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The verse undoes the belief that real repair requires rebuilding everything: one strengthened section can restore continuity when it reaches the corner.

הֶחֱזִיק

heḥĕzîq

GROWS FROM

חזק

Be strong; strengthen or make firm.

“strengthened” in this verse is heḥĕzîq. The verb translated “repaired” comes from a root about strength and firmness. The work here is expressed as strengthening a portion of the wall, so repair means making what stands firm as another section is added.

ALSO GROWS

ḥāzāq: Strong, firm.

חָזָק

This names the quality the repair gives the wall: firmness.

ḥizzēq: Strengthened, reinforced.

חִזֵּק

This related form makes the action explicit: the section is made strong.

פִּנָּה

pinnāh

GROWS FROM

פנה

Turn; face or direct oneself toward.

The word for “corner” is related to a root meaning “turn” or “face.” The corner is where the wall turns toward a new direction, so the endpoint is also the place where the structure changes course and continues.

ALSO GROWS

pānāh: Turn, face toward.

פָּנָה

This verb carries the turning sense present at the wall’s corner.

pānîm: Face, presence.

פָּנִים

This related word gives the turn a face: the wall presents another direction at its corner.

בִּנּוּי

Binnûy

GROWS FROM

בנה

Build; construct.

Binnui’s name is commonly understood from the root for building. The verse joins that name to the work itself: the builder adds one defined portion to a larger structure.

ALSO GROWS

bānāh: Build, construct.

בָּנָה

This is the root verb behind the name and the wall-building work.

mivneh: Structure, building.

מִבְנֶה

This related noun names the larger whole that takes shape from its joined sections.

A shared structure becomes firm as its portions are strengthened and joined at the corners that set its course.

So we built the wall, and all the wall was tied together to half of it, for the people had heart to work.
Nehemiah 4:6 · SDVThe wall becomes one as its separate lengths are joined, though each person works on a portion.
The stone the builders push away becomes the head of the corner.
Psalm 118:22 · SDVThe stone at the corner becomes the meeting point that shapes the larger structure.
Having been built upon the foundation of the sent ones and the prophets, the Anointed One, Jesus, himself being the head of the corner.
Ephesians 2:20 · SDVThe passage pictures a structure whose fit depends on its foundation and cornerstone.
Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a weighty cornerstone, a foundation set firm. The one who leans his weight will not hurry.
Isaiah 28:16 · SDV

Isaiah’s “corner stone” and Nehemiah’s “corner” use the same Hebrew word, ⁨פִּנָּה⁩ (pinnāh). The shared word opens the turning point as more than a stopping place: it is where the structure’s direction and fit are set.
