This verse in the King James

King James wording
And when the jubile of the children of Israel shall be, then shall their inheritance be put unto the inheritance of the tribe whereunto they are received: so shall their inheritance be taken away from the inheritance of the tribe of our fathers.

At Jubilee, every tribe that receives an inheritance is joined to a tribe that loses it.

A portion is received into one tribe, and that same movement removes it from another. The verse shows inheritance as a relationship between a share of land and the people in whose line it rests.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A change of ownership leaves every other line untouched.

נַחֲלָה

naḥalah

GROWS FROM

נחל

n-ḥ-l

To inherit or take possession; to receive as a possession.

“holding” in this verse is naḥalah. This word-family holds both the portion and the act of receiving possession. Here, what enters one tribe is also removed from another, making the inheritance a transfer between lines.

ALSO GROWS

naḥal: To inherit or possess.

נָחַל

The related verb keeps the act of receiving bound to the inheritance itself.

naḥalah: An inherited portion, possession, or heritage.

נַחֲלָה

The noun names the portion whose movement joins one tribe’s gain to another’s loss.

Inheritance places a portion within a relationship, so where it is received shapes where it belongs.

And you shall set apart the fiftieth year, and proclaim a free flowing through all the land to all who settle in it. It shall be a ram's horn year for you, and you shall turn back each to his holding, and each to his family you shall turn back.
Leviticus 25:10 · SDVJubilee returns each person to possession and family, showing inherited land as part of an ordered return.
The LORD is the portion of my share and of my cup; you hold fast my lot.
Psalm 16:5 · SDVThe inheritance is a portion and a lot that is maintained, held within a relationship.
And now, brothers, I set you alongside God and the word of his favor, which is able to build you as a house, and to give you a portion among all who have been set apart.
Acts 20:32 · SDVThe inheritance is received among a community, giving the portion a place within a larger people.
And you shall set apart the fiftieth year, and proclaim a free flowing through all the land to all who settle in it. It shall be a ram's horn year for you, and you shall turn back each to his holding, and each to his family you shall turn back.
Leviticus 25:10 · SDV

The shared Jubilee term links the verses directly: Numbers shows what happens to tribal inheritance, while Leviticus names the return to possession and family. Together they show Jubilee reordering where inheritance belongs.
