Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
And upon the table of shewbread they shall spread a cloth of blue, and put thereon the dishes, and the spoons, and the bowls, and covers to cover withal: and the continual bread shall be thereon:

The “shewbread” is literally bread of the faces: even beneath its covering, the bread remains set before the presence.

The continual bread stays on the table as its cloth and vessels are arranged. Its name, bread of the faces, places provision before the presence; the covering changes what can be seen, not what remains set there.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that what is covered is gone: the bread remains on the table even when it is covered.

לֶחֶם הַפָּנִים

lechem ha-panim

GROWS FROM

פנה

panah

To turn or face toward.

“bread before the face” in this verse is lechem ha-panim. The Hebrew phrase means “bread of the faces,” or bread of the presence. The word for face carries the sense of facing toward; the bread is provision placed before a face, and here it remains there even as the covering is laid over it.

ALSO GROWS

panah: Turn, face toward.

פָּנָה

This verb gives the root its sense of orientation toward someone or something.

panim: Face, faces; by extension, presence.

פָּנִים

In “bread of the faces,” it frames the bread as set before the presence.

lifnei: Before, in front of.

לִפְנֵי

This form makes the same face-and-facing idea spatial: what is before a face stands in its presence.

הַשֻּׁלְחָן

hashulchan

GROWS FROM

שלח

shalach

To send forth, extend, or release.

The table’s name echoes shalach, to send forth or extend: it is a surface that extends provision outward. In this verse, the table stays the place of provision while the covering and vessels are arranged around it.

ALSO GROWS

shalach: Send, send forth, release.

שָׁלַח

The verb’s sense of extending outward illuminates the table as a place where provision is set before others.

shulchan: Table.

שֻׁלְחָן

The table bears the continual bread, extending its provision while it is covered.

Provision is set before the presence and remains there.

And you set upon the table the bread of the face before me always.
Exodus 25:30 · SDVThe bread is explicitly placed before the presence and remains there continually.
You lay out a table before my face, in full view of those who press me. You make my head rich with oil; my cup is soaked full.
Psalm 23:5 · SDVThe table holds provision before the speaker even amid surrounding threat.
Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life. The one who comes to me shall never hunger, and the one who leans their full weight into me shall never thirst.
John 6:35 · SDVThe image of bread becomes provision that meets hunger and thirst.
And you set upon the table the bread of the face before me always.
Exodus 25:30 · SDV

Both verses name the bread as shewbread, literally bread of the faces, and place it before the presence. Numbers adds the detail that it remains on the table even as the covering is laid over it.
