This verse in the King James

King James wording
Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:

The promise of one purse makes a share in violence sound like belonging.

The invitation offers belonging through a shared stake: your lot falls in with theirs, and the purse is common. Where the surrounding offer is to take life, joining the group means sharing its violence as well as its gain.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A common purse does not make a common cause innocent; equal shares cannot erase the harm by which they are taken.

תַּפִּיל

tappil

GROWS FROM

נפל

Fall; in this form, cause to fall.

“let your lot fall” in this verse is tappil. Here “cast” is the causative form of ⁨נפל⁩: literally, to make the lot fall among them. The same root gives both falling and downfall, so placing your fate with this company already carries the shape of where its scheme leads.

ALSO GROWS

naphal: Fall

נָפַל

This is the root verb beneath “cast”: the lot is made to fall among the group.

mappalah: Downfall, ruin

מַפָּלָה

This branch gives the root’s falling a darker edge: the shared venture’s promised gain can end in ruin.

A promise of shared gain can disguise the harm that sustains it.

If they say, Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood; let us hide for the clean, for nothing.
Proverbs 1:11 · SDVThe invitation to join the group makes shared violence sound like a common venture.
Its heads judge for a bribe, and its priests teach for a price, and its prophets divine for silver. Yet they lean their full weight upon the LORD and say, Is not the LORD in our midst? No harm can come upon us.
Micah 3:11 · SDVWhen authority turns judgment, teaching, and prophecy into income, confidence in the group masks the harm beneath its profit.
Look, the wages of the workers who mowed your fields, stripped away by your fraud, cry out, and the cries of those who reaped have gone into the ears of the LORD of hosts.
James 5:4 · SDVThe money kept by fraud carries the cries of the workers whose labor produced it.
And they lie in wait for their own blood; they hide for their own living souls.
Proverbs 1:18 · SDV

The offer here promises a common purse; this verse reveals the shared outcome: the conspirators lay wait for their own blood and lives. The gain they pursue turns back upon them.
