This verse in the King James

King James wording
It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness: for the throne is established by righteousness.

A throne does not make its occupant righteous; alignment is what makes the throne stand.

Wherever power is held now, its stability comes from alignment; the position alone cannot secure it. The verse calls wrongdoing an abomination to kingship because the throne is made firm through righteousness.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A ruler’s authority makes whatever the ruler does right.

צְדָקָה

tzedakah

GROWS FROM

צדק

ts-d-q

rightness, justice, alignment

Righteousness here carries the sense of alignment: the throne stands through right relation, not through the force of its occupant. The same root describes both the quality of what is right and the person who is aligned with it.

ALSO GROWS

tsedeq: rightness, justice

צֶדֶק

This branch shows that the throne’s foundation is a condition of justice, not simply possession of office.

tsaddiq: one who is right or aligned

צַדִּיק

The root can describe a person as well as a principle, joining the character of the ruler to the stability of the throne.

יִכּוֹן

yikkon

GROWS FROM

כון

k-w-n

to be firm, established, or prepared

“stands firm” in this verse is yikkon. The verb pictures the throne as made firm through righteousness. Stability is an outcome of alignment, not something guaranteed by the seat itself.

ALSO GROWS

makon: a foundation, site, or dwelling place

מָכוֹן

This branch makes the idea of establishment tangible: what stands needs a prepared foundation.

hekin: to prepare or set in place

הֵכִין

This branch echoes the verse’s claim that firmness comes through what is set in order, not through power alone.

Rule becomes stable through alignment and justice, while wrongdoing undermines the very seat it tries to serve.

Alignment and judgment are the footing of your throne; faithful love and truth go before your face.
Psalm 89:14 · SDVThis verse also locates the throne’s dwelling in justice, making right order its foundation.
Alignment lifts up a nation, but falling short is a reproach to any people.
Proverbs 14:34 · SDVHere the same principle reaches beyond a throne: alignment lifts a whole people, while wrongdoing brings reproach.
But to the Son he says, Your throne, O God, is for the age of the ages, and the rod of straightness is the rod of your governance.
Hebrews 1:8 · SDVThe verse joins rule and righteousness again, presenting alignment as the character of the kingdom’s authority.
And the work of alignment will be wholeness, and the service of alignment will be stillness and trust for the ages.
Isaiah 32:17 · SDV

Isaiah uses the same root, ⁨צְדָקָה⁩ (tzedakah), for righteousness and follows it into its effects: wholeness, quietness, and security. Proverbs shows alignment making the throne firm; Isaiah shows that same alignment bearing settled outcomes.
