King James wording
King James Version
I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:THE KEY
Wisdom’s guidance is movement within the lived path where alignment and discernment meet.
THE MEANING
Wisdom is moving with you now along the path where your choices take shape. Righteousness carries the sense of alignment, and judgment brings discernment to that movement. Guidance is present in the way itself, not only in a destination ahead.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
This undoes the belief that wisdom is only correct information, untouched by the direction of a life.
THE ROOT
צְדָקָה
tsedaqah
GROWS FROM
צדק
tsadaq
To be right or just; alignment.
צְדָקָה (tsedaqah, righteousness or justice) grows from צדק (tsadaq, to be right or just; alignment). Its branches include צֶדֶק (tsedeq, rightness or justice) and צַדִּיק (tsaddiq, a righteous person), so this way is lived alignment rather than a status label.
ALSO GROWS
tsedeq: Rightness, justice
צֶדֶק
It shows the shared root holding justice and righteousness together.
tsaddiq: A righteous or just person
צַדִּיק
It makes alignment a quality embodied in a person, not just an abstract rule.
tsedaqah: Righteousness, justice
צְדָקָה
This is the verse’s word, carrying the same root into the path Wisdom moves within.
אֲהַלֵּךְ
’ahalekh
GROWS FROM
הלך
halakh
To walk or go; to move along a way.
The verb in “I lead” is אֲהַלֵּךְ (’ahalekh, walk or go), from הלך (halakh, walk or go). Wisdom’s guidance is voiced through a movement-word, joining the act of leading to the lived course of walking.
ALSO GROWS
holekh: One who walks or goes
הֹלֵךְ
It portrays a person as moving along a way, echoing Wisdom’s active guidance.
holikh: To lead or cause to go
הוֹלִיךְ
This causative form makes the connection between going and guiding explicit.
מִשְׁפָּט
mishpat
GROWS FROM
שפט
shaphat
To judge, decide, or govern.
מִשְׁפָּט (mishpat, judgment or justice) comes from שפט (shaphat, to judge or decide). Its branches hold both the act of judging and the ordering that follows, so the path is shaped by discernment as well as alignment.
ALSO GROWS
shofet: A judge
שֹׁפֵט
It names the one who discerns and decides, the human form of the root’s action.
shefatim: Judgments or decisions
שְׁפָטִים
It shows the root extending into the outcomes that order a path.
THE PATTERN
Wisdom’s way takes shape as movement through alignment and just discernment.
On the way of wisdom I have pointed you; I have led you on straight paths. He turns back my living soul; he leads me in the tracks of alignment for the sake of his nature. For John came to you in the way of alignment, and you did not lean your weight upon him. But the tax collectors and the harlots leaned their weight upon him. And you, having perceived it, did not turn afterward to lean your weight upon him.THE THREAD
He turns back my living soul; he leads me in the tracks of alignment for the sake of his nature. The “righteousness” in both passages grows from צדק (tsadaq, to be right or just; alignment). Proverbs places Wisdom within that path; the psalm shows the same path as a place of restoration.
