This verse in the King James

King James wording
So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth thy glory.

The LORD’s name is nature made known, and its weight reaches beyond every nation and throne.

The LORD’s nature is present and recognizable across peoples, and its weight reaches rulers as well as ordinary lives. No nation or throne stands outside the presence that gives reality its deepest measure.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that political power is the world’s highest authority: kings themselves encounter a weight greater than their own.

כְּבוֹדֶךָ

kevodekha

GROWS FROM

כבד

k-b-d

To be heavy, to carry weight.

The word translated “glory” grows from the root for heaviness: the LORD’s glory is the weight of a presence that cannot be treated as small. The verse places this weight before kings, whose rank does not diminish it.

ALSO GROWS

kaved: Heavy, weighty.

כָּבֵד

This adjective shares the root, showing how glory and weight belong to the same word-family.

kibbed: Honored, treated as weighty.

כִּבֵּד

To honor is to recognize weight; the kings encounter the LORD’s glory as a reality worthy of that recognition.

יִירְאוּ

yirʾu

GROWS FROM

ירא

y-r-ʾ

To fear, to stand in awe.

“stand in awe” in this verse is yirʾu. The verb can carry fear and awe; with the LORD as its object, it is the response of encountering what exceeds ordinary rank. It attaches this response to the LORD’s shem (⁨שֵׁם⁩, shem: name as nature), so the name is known through the character it reveals.

ALSO GROWS

yirʾah: Awe, fear.

יִרְאָה

This noun names the response the verse describes among the nations.

noraʾ: Awe-inspiring, fearsome.

נוֹרָא

This form describes what evokes awe, echoing the LORD’s presence as it reaches peoples and rulers.

The LORD’s revealed nature draws nations and rulers into recognition of a greater reality.

All the nations you made come and bow down before your face, O Lord, and give weight to your name.
Psalm 86:9 · SDVAll nations respond to the LORD and bring honor to the name that reveals his nature.
And nations shall walk to your light, and kings to the glow of your rising.
Isaiah 60:3 · SDVThe light of the LORD draws both peoples and kings toward what has been revealed.
And the nations of the delivered walk by its light, and the kings of the earth carry their weight and honor into it.
Revelation 21:24 · SDVNations walk in the light, while the kings of the earth bring their honor into its presence.
For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the weight of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
Habakkuk 2:14 · SDV

The “glory” here is kavod (⁨כָּבוֹד⁩, kavod: weight), the same Hebrew word as in Psalm 102:15. Habakkuk opens the scale of that weight: it fills the earth and becomes known as widely as waters cover the sea.
