This verse in the King James

King James wording
Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:

The one who made the whole world is still guarding what is true through every age.

The One who brings heaven, earth, sea, and all within them into being also guards what is firm and true through every age. Creation is not only a beginning; its Maker remains its keeper. The verse places the whole world and enduring truth in one continuous care.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The verse undoes the belief that the Maker only starts the world and then withdraws: the One who makes is also keeping truth through every age.

הַשֹּׁמֵר

ha-shomer

GROWS FROM

שמר

To guard, keep watch, or watch over.

“guards” in this verse is ha-shomer. The word rendered keepeth comes from ⁨שָׁמַר⁩ (shamar, to guard or keep watch), a root that joins keeping with watchfulness. The Maker is not described only at the world’s beginning; the verse presents the Maker as continually watching over what is true.

ALSO GROWS

shamar: To guard, keep, or watch over.

שָׁמַר

This is the root verb behind keepeth, revealing the watchful sense inside the act of keeping.

mishmeret: A watch, charge, or duty of guarding.

מִשְׁמֶרֶת

This branch makes keeping a sustained watch, echoing the verse’s picture of truth held through the ages.

אֱמֶת

emet

GROWS FROM

אמן

To be firm, steady, or reliable.

⁨אֱמֶת⁩ (emet, truth) grows from ⁨אמן⁩ (aman, to be firm or reliable): truth carries the sense of what can stand and be trusted. Paired with ⁨שָׁמַר⁩ (shamar, to guard), the verse shows what is firm being kept in watchful care.

ALSO GROWS

amen: Truly; a firm affirmation or confirmation.

אָמֵן

Amen shares the root’s sense of firmness, giving voice to what is trusted as true.

emunah: Trust, steadfast reliance.

אֱמוּנָה

This branch shows the same root as something a person can lean their full weight on, connecting truth with dependable trust.

The Maker’s work remains held in dependable care across the ages.

Look, the watcher of Israel neither nods nor sleeps.
Psalm 121:4 · SDVThe same guarding presence that keeps truth in Psalm 146 is pictured here as keeping Israel without ceasing.
The grass dries, the flower withers, but the word of our God stands for the ages.
Isaiah 40:8 · SDVWhat God speaks remains standing through change, expressing the endurance of what God keeps true.
Who, being the radiance of his weight and the exact stamp of his foundation, carrying all things by the word of his power, when he had made the cleansing of shortcomings, sat down at the right hand of the Greatness on high.
Hebrews 1:3 · SDVThe one through whom all things are made is also described as upholding all things.
For his faithful love grows mighty over us, and the truth of the LORD endures for the ages. Praise the LORD!
Psalm 117:2 · SDV

Psalm 117 uses the same phrase: ⁨אֱמֶת⁩ (emet, truth as firmness) ⁨לְעוֹלָם⁩ (le’olam, through the age). Psalm 146 names the LORD as the one guarding that truth; Psalm 117 says it endures, joining the keeper and what is kept.
