Selah Decoded Version The Selah Decoded Version renders what the Hebrew and Greek words meant to the people who first heard them.

This verse in the King James

King James wording
Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads.

The seal comes before the harm: belonging to God is made visible before creation is struck.

Harm is held back until the servants of God are marked on their foreheads. The verse places recognition before damage: the earth, sea, and trees are not touched until those who belong to God are identified.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that harm is always indiscriminate and unstoppable: here, damage is restrained while belonging is marked.

σφραγίζω

sphragizō

GROWS FROM

σφραγ-

sphrag-

To seal or impress with a signet; to mark as authenticated or recognized.

The seal does more than label the servants: it identifies them under God’s claim. English can make “sealed” sound like a closed surface, while the Greek word also carries the sense of an impressed mark that authenticates what it marks.

ALSO GROWS

sphragis: A seal or signet

σφραγίς

The noun names the mark itself, making clear that the verb in this verse describes an identifying impression.

episphragizō: To set a seal upon; to attest by sealing

ἐπισφραγίζω

This related verb shows how a seal can mark something as recognized and confirmed, deepening the force of the servants being sealed before harm proceeds.

God’s mark identifies those under God’s claim before harm passes through.

And the LORD said to him, Pass through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men who sigh and moan over all the loathsome things done in her midst.
Ezekiel 9:4 · SDVA mark is placed on foreheads before destruction moves through the city.
In him you also heard the word of truth, the good news of your deliverance, and in him, having leaned your weight, you were sealed with the Set-Apart Breath of promise.
Ephesians 1:13 · SDVThose who trust are sealed, carrying the same image of being marked as belonging to God.
And it is commanded to them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree, but only the men who do not have the seal of God in their foreheads.
Revelation 9:4 · SDVThe seal on the forehead distinguishes those who are spared from the harm described.
In him you also heard the word of truth, the good news of your deliverance, and in him, having leaned your weight, you were sealed with the Set-Apart Breath of promise.
Ephesians 1:13 · SDV

Ephesians uses the same Greek sealing word, ⁨σφραγίζω⁩ (sphragizō), found in Revelation 7:3. The shared root joins the visible mark on the forehead with the language of being recognized and sealed as God’s own.
