This verse in the King James

King James wording
An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

The law can give truth a recognizable form; the question is whether that form takes shape in you.

You can carry the law’s outline of knowledge and truth and teach it to others. Yet what you know is tested in how it takes shape in your own life. The next verse turns that tension into a direct question about the teacher’s conduct.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Knowing and teaching truth makes my own conduct exempt from its scrutiny.

μόρφωσιν

morphōsin

GROWS FROM

μορφ-

morph-

Form, shape, or embodiment.

“outline” in this verse is morphōsin. The word translated “form” belongs to the same Greek word family as “be formed.” It can name truth’s recognizable shape, while the surrounding verses ask whether that shape also appears in the teacher’s own conduct.

ALSO GROWS

morphē: Form or shape.

μορφή

It shares the ⁨μορφ-⁩ stem and shows that the verse’s “form” belongs to a family of words about shape.

morphoō: To form or shape.

μορφόω

This verb uses the same stem in Galatians 4:19, where Christ is to be “formed” in the reader.

metamorphoō: To transform in form or shape.

μεταμορφόω

This related word makes the family’s shaping language vivid: form can describe a change that becomes visible.

Truth held as instruction becomes visible in whether it shapes the conduct of the one who teaches it.

And the Lord says, Because this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips give me weight, but their heart has gone far from me, and their awe of me is a command of men, trained.
Isaiah 29:13 · SDVThe verse sets outward words and taught observance beside a heart that remains distant.
Therefore you who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who cry out not to steal, do you steal?
Romans 2:21 · SDVThe question tests whether the teacher’s instruction has taken shape in the teacher’s own actions.
Holding the shape of reverence, yet refusing its strength; turn away from these.
2 Timothy 3:5 · SDVIt names a recognizable form that can remain disconnected from the life it appears to express.
My little children, for whom I am in birth-pangs again, until the Anointed One be shaped in you.
Galatians 4:19 · SDV

“Form” here and “be formed” in Galatians share the Greek ⁨μορφ-⁩ (morph-) word family. Romans names knowledge and truth in their recognizable form; Galatians pictures that shaping taking place within you.
