King James wording
King James Version
Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;THE KEY
The same deliverance reaches from sunrise to sunset, so no distance can place you beyond the reach of being gathered.
THE MEANING
You are not beyond reach when life scatters you: the One who calls you “my people” is bringing you out. This deliverance spans the whole horizon, from where light rises to where the sun goes down.
WHAT THIS UNDOES
The lie this undoes is that being scattered or far away makes you no longer God’s own or puts you beyond deliverance.
THE ROOT
מוֹשִׁיעַ
moshia
GROWS FROM
י-ש-ע
y-sh-ʿ
To deliver, bringing someone out of constriction into spaciousness.
“deliver” in this verse is moshia. The word translated “save” comes from the same root as “deliverance”: the act and its result share one seed. Here, being gathered from distant horizons is part of that movement out of constriction.
ALSO GROWS
yeshuah: Deliverance
יְשׁוּעָה
This noun names the deliverance that the verse’s verb enacts: being brought out and gathered.
moshia: Deliverer; one who brings out
מוֹשִׁיעַ
This is the form used in the verse, presenting deliverance as an active bringing-out.
THE PATTERN
Deliverance reaches across every horizon and gathers what has been scattered.
Do not fear, for I am with you; I will bring your seed from the sunrise, and gather you from the sunset. He gathers them in from the lands, from the east and the west, from the north and the south. And he sends his messengers with a great trumpet, and they gather his picked-out ones from the four winds, from the edges of the heavens to their edges.THE THREAD
Leap greatly, daughter of Zion. Shout, daughter of Jerusalem. Look, your king comes to you. He is aligned and delivered, bowed low, riding on a donkey, and on a colt, the son of a she-donkey.Zechariah 8:7 uses a form of י-ש-ע (y-sh-ʿ) for delivering; here the same root appears in יְשׁוּעָה (yeshuah), deliverance. The shared root links the gathering of the scattered with the movement out of constriction into spaciousness.
