This verse in the King James

King James wording
In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif:

The Hebrew calls the house “founded”: its hidden foundation is already its beginning, not merely preparation for it.

The dwelling of God in your life begins in what is set beneath the visible form; its foundation is already part of the house. The verse gives this hidden beginning the force of establishment, not a waiting period before the real thing. Ziv means brightness or splendor, placing this beginning under an image of radiance.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

Only what is visible counts as a real beginning. Here, the hidden foundation itself is the beginning of the house.

יֻסַּד

yussad

GROWS FROM

יסד

y-s-d

to set, establish, or found

English makes “laid” sound like placing something in position, while ⁨יֻסַּד⁩ belongs to the root that also names a foundation. The verse holds the founding act and the hidden base together: the house’s beginning is already its establishment.

ALSO GROWS

yasad: to found, establish

יָסַד

This verb names the act behind the house being founded here.

yesod: foundation, base

יְסוֹד

This noun shares the root and names the hidden base as a thing; the act and its result belong to one word-family.

mosad: foundation, established base

מוֹסָד

This branch likewise names what is set beneath a structure, showing how the root carries both founding and foundation.

What becomes a dwelling or a life that stands takes its shape from a foundation laid before the visible structure.

A Song of degrees for Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders toil in emptiness. Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in emptiness.
Psalm 127:1 · SDVThe house’s visible construction depends on a deeper act of building and keeping.
Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a weighty cornerstone, a foundation set firm. The one who leans his weight will not hurry.
Isaiah 28:16 · SDVThe foundation is named as the decisive ground beneath what will stand.
Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house upon the rock.
Matthew 7:24 · SDVThe house’s endurance is shown through the ground on which it is built.
Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion a stone, a tested stone, a weighty cornerstone, a foundation set firm. The one who leans his weight will not hurry.
Isaiah 28:16 · SDV

The Hebrew “I lay” in Isaiah comes from ⁨יסד⁩, the same root behind “laid” here. Kings names the house’s founding; Isaiah uses that same root to reveal the foundation as sure ground.
