This verse in the King James

King James wording
Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and his abominations which he did, and that which was found in him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah: and Jehoiachin his son reigned in his stead.

The king whose name means “YHWH raises” leaves a record of his deeds, then the son whose name means “YHWH establishes” takes his throne.

What a person does and what is found in them belong to one account. Authority passes to another, while the record of the one who held it remains.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that being raised into a role, or being replaced in it, erases what was done or found within the person.

דִּבְרֵי

divrei

GROWS FROM

דבר

d-b-r

To speak; a word, matter, or affair.

The Hebrew calls these “matters” or “words,” where the KJV says “acts.” A life’s deeds become matters that can be told and entered into a record, holding the action together with its account.

ALSO GROWS

davar: A word, matter, or affair.

דָּבָר

The king’s “acts” are rendered as the matters of his life, not detached from the account that records them.

dibber: He spoke; uttered.

דִּבֵּר

The same root that names what is spoken also names the matters being recorded.

יְהוֹיָקִים

Yehoyaqim

GROWS FROM

קום

q-w-m

Rise or stand; in the causative form, raise or set up. The name means “YHWH raises” or “YHWH sets up.”

“Jehoiakim” in this verse is Yehoyaqim. The name carries the language of being raised into place, while the verse keeps the king’s deeds and what was found in him on record. Being set up in authority does not make the person’s account disappear.

ALSO GROWS

qum: Rise or stand.

קוּם

The name begins from the idea of rising or standing.

heqim: Raise or set up.

הֵקִים

This causative form makes the name’s sense of being raised into place explicit.

יְהוֹיָכִין

Yehoyakhin

GROWS FROM

כון

k-w-n

Be firm, established, or prepared. The name means “YHWH establishes.”

“Jehoiachin” in this verse is Yehoyakhin. The son who takes the throne bears a name of establishment. The verse places that new beginning beside the former king’s continuing record: succession changes who reigns, but it does not erase what came before.

ALSO GROWS

hekin: Prepared or established.

הֵכִין

This form expresses making something ready or setting it in place.

makhon: A fixed place or foundation.

מָכוֹן

The same root gives the idea of a place made firm.

What is done openly and what remains hidden within a person both enter the account brought to light.

For God brings every making into judgment, upon every hidden thing, whether good or harm.
Ecclesiastes 12:14 · SDVThe verse joins visible work with what is secret, bringing both into the same account.
In the day when God judges the covered things of humans, according to my good news, through Jesus the Anointed One.
Romans 2:16 · SDVWhat is concealed within a person is still present to the one who judges.
But I say to you, every word without work that humankind speaks, they will give back an account of it in the day of judgment.
Matthew 12:36 · SDVEven spoken words become part of the account, echoing the root that links “acts” with words and matters.
Now the remainder of the words of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the words of the days of the kings of Judah?
2 Kings 24:5 · SDV

The parallel account uses the same Hebrew word, divrei (⁨דִּבְרֵי⁩), for “acts”, literally matters or words. Chronicles widens that record to include his abominations and what was found in him, showing how the king’s deeds and inner account remain together.
