This verse in the King James

King James wording
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.

The appeal to be reconciled is God’s own voice arriving through a human mouth.

God’s appeal is already reaching you through human voices: reconciliation begins with God’s movement toward you. In the Anointed One, the appeal is to enter the relationship God is restoring. The ambassador carries that appeal, but its source is God.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that God stays distant until you make the first move. The verse places the first appeal with God, reaching you through a human voice.

καταλλάγητε

katallagēte

GROWS FROM

⁨καταλλάσσω⁩ (katallassō), formed with ⁨ἀλλάσσω⁩ (allassō)

To reconcile or restore a relationship; the word’s form carries the sense of change or exchange.

“be exchanged back” in this verse is katallagēte. “Be reconciled” is a passive command: reconciliation is received, not self-produced. The surrounding verses name God as its source, so the appeal is for you to enter a restoration already moving toward you.
