This verse in the King James

King James wording
And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

The verb translated “bring him safe” names deliverance as being carried through danger to a destination, even when that destination is not freedom.

When your way forward is dangerous, protection can come as the concrete means that carry you into the next place. Paul is brought safely through this stretch, yet not freed from constraint; his destination is Felix, and the journey continues. Here, deliverance means passage through danger, not its instant disappearance.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

This undoes the belief that deliverance only counts if it immediately removes danger or makes you free: Paul reaches the next place safely while still being taken to a governor.

GROWS FROM

σῴζω

sōzō

Deliver, rescue, bring out. In the compound ⁨διασῴζω⁩ (diasōzō, bring safely through), ⁨διά⁩ (dia, through) keeps the passage itself inside the word.

“deliver him through safe” in this verse is diasōsōsin. English makes “safe” sound like a settled condition, while this verb names movement: being brought through to a destination. Paul reaches Felix without the verse claiming that his constraint has ended.

ALSO GROWS

sōzō: Deliver, rescue, bring out.

σῴζω

This is the core verb in “bring him safe”; here, deliverance is getting Paul through the journey.

sōtēria: Deliverance.

σωτηρία

This noun names the same family of rescue that the verse shows as safe passage.

sōtēr: Deliverer.

σωτήρ

This branch names the one who delivers; in the verse, practical means carry Paul toward his destination.

Deliverance can take the form of practical means that carry a person through danger toward the next place.

Now you are commanded. Do this. Take for yourselves wagons from the land of Egypt for your little ones and for your wives, and lift your father, and come.
Genesis 45:19 · SDVWagons turn provision into a way for a vulnerable family to reach the next place.
Even to old age I AM, and to gray hair I will bear you. I have made, and I will lift, I will bear, and I will slip you free.
Isaiah 46:4 · SDVDeliverance appears as being carried and borne onward, not as a demand to cross the distance alone.
And the rest, some on planks, and some on pieces of the ship. And so it came about that they were all delivered safely to land.
Acts 27:44 · SDVEven broken ship pieces become the means by which the survivors pass through danger to shore.
And the rest, some on planks, and some on pieces of the ship. And so it came about that they were all delivered safely to land.
Acts 27:44 · SDV

Acts 27 uses another form of ⁨διασῴζω⁩ (diasōzō, bring safely through), the same Greek verb behind “bring him safe” here. There, boards and broken ship pieces carry the survivors; here, beasts carry Paul. In both, deliverance is passage through danger by concrete means.
