This verse in the King James

King James wording
Having therefore obtained help of God, I continue unto this day, witnessing both to small and great, saying none other things than those which the prophets and Moses did say should come:

The help is received, and its lasting result is a witness who is still standing today.

The verse presents help from God as something that sustains a person into the present. The witness speaks to people of every rank while holding to what the prophets and Moses said was coming. What is spoken now remains connected to what has already been spoken.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that help only matters in a single moment dissolves here: it can sustain someone to stand and bear witness into the present.

ἕστηκα

hestēka from histēmi

GROWS FROM

⁨ἵστημι⁩ (histēmi), with the stem ⁨στα-⁩/⁨στη-⁩ (sta-/stē-)

To stand or set in place.

“stand” in this verse is hestēka from histēmi. The verb translated continue literally carries the sense of standing, with a completed action whose result remains. The verse joins received help to a standing that reaches unto this day.

ALSO GROWS

anistēmi: To rise or stand up.

ἀνίστημι

The same standing root describes rising into an upright position, making continued standing part of a larger language of being raised.

anastasis: A rising or resurrection.

ἀνάστασις

This word carries the standing root into the idea of rising; the English word continue leaves that family connection hidden.

μαρτυρόμενος

martyromenos from martyreō

GROWS FROM

⁨μαρτυρ-⁩ (martyr-), from ⁨μαρτυρέω⁩ (martyreō)

To bear witness or testify.

“bearing witness” in this verse is martyromenos from martyreō. The Greek word family connects the person who bears witness with the testimony itself. Here the witness speaks no new message, but bears testimony to what has already been spoken through the prophets and Moses.

ALSO GROWS

martys: A witness.

μάρτυς

The witness is named by the same word family as the act of testifying.

martyria: Testimony or witness.

μαρτυρία

The testimony is the spoken expression of the witness’s act, linking the person and the message.

Help from God sustains a witness in both steadfastness and speech.

And now go, and I will be with your mouth, and I will teach you what you will speak.
Exodus 4:12 · SDVGod’s presence accompanies the one being sent and sustains the words they speak.
For the Lord GOD will gird me; therefore I have not been shamed. Therefore I have set my face like flint, and I know that I will not be ashamed.
Isaiah 50:7 · SDVHelp from God becomes steadfastness that remains through opposition.
And when they had prayed, the place where they were gathered was shaken, and they were all filled with the Set-Apart Breath and spoke the word of God with boldness.
Acts 4:31 · SDVThe assembly receives boldness to speak God’s word after prayer.
Now I make known to you, brothers, the good news I brought you, which you also took from another's hand, and in which you stand.
1 Corinthians 15:1 · SDV

The Greek verb translated continue in Acts and stand here comes from the same root for standing or being set in place. In Acts the witness stands unto this day; here, what has been received is where the community stands.
