This verse in the King James

King James wording
I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead.

The word “second” carries the seed of repetition: a new face rises, but only into a place that someone else has held.

You are among the living moving beneath the sun, watching one person rise into a place another has left. A new face can fill that place without ending the succession.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

A successor’s arrival does not mean the cycle is over; someone else now stands where another stood.

הַשֵּׁנִי

hasheni

GROWS FROM

שׁנה

sh-n-h

To repeat or do again; also to change or alter.

The “second” youth is more than a new person in sequence: the word carries the sense of what comes again. The same root links succession with recurrence, so a new arrival can mark the cycle continuing rather than ending.

ALSO GROWS

sheni: Second

שֵׁנִי

This is the word used for the successor who rises in another’s place.

shanah: Year

שָׁנָה

The year returns in a recurring cycle, echoing the repeated succession beneath the sun.

nishnah: Repeated or doubled

נִשְׁנָה

This form appears in Genesis 41:32, where a dream is doubled, showing the root’s sense of repetition.

יַעֲמֹד

ya'amod

GROWS FROM

עמד

ʿ-m-d

To stand, remain, or take a position.

“will stand” in this verse is ya'amod. The successor does not step into a wholly new world; he stands in the position another occupied. The root makes succession concrete: one person leaves, and another takes that place.

ALSO GROWS

omed: Standing

עוֹמֵד

It names the posture of occupying a place, as the successor does here.

ma'amad: A standing place, position, or status

מַעֲמָד

It brings out the position that remains available as its occupant changes.

Human generations and positions pass from one occupant to the next, while the succession continues.

One generation walks away, and another generation comes, but the earth stands for ages.
Ecclesiastes 1:4 · SDVOne generation leaves and another arrives, just as a successor rises into the place left behind.
And he changes the times and the seasons. He removes kings and raises up kings. He gives wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those who know understanding.
Daniel 2:21 · SDVThe same succession appears in rule: one king is removed and another takes the position.
And they truly were many priests, for death held them back from remaining.
Hebrews 7:23 · SDVA role passes through many occupants because each person’s tenure ends.
And as for the dream being doubled to the Great House twice, it is because the word is set firm by God, and God will hasten to do it.
Genesis 41:32 · SDV

The Hebrew word translated “doubled” comes from the same root as “second”: both carry the sense of repetition. Ecclesiastes shows that repetition in the living succession of one person standing in another’s place.
