This verse in the King James

King James wording
If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

God’s favor is not a private possession here; it is a trust moving through one person toward others.

God’s favor reaches you through what is entrusted and shared. The verse puts that gift in motion: it is given to one person for the good of others.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

It undoes the belief that God’s favor is meant to stop with the person who receives it; here, it is expressly given “to you-ward.”

οἰκονομία

oikonomía

GROWS FROM

⁨οἰκονόμος⁩ (⁨οἶκος⁩ + ⁨νέμω⁩)

Household stewardship: managing and ordering what has been entrusted to a household.

“household keeping” in this verse is oikonomía. The word carries the sense of a trust to be managed for others, not merely a period of time or an abstract arrangement. That makes “to you-ward” central: what is entrusted to one person is directed outward.

ALSO GROWS

oikos: House or household.

οἶκος

The household image makes the entrusted favor something held within a shared life, not as private property.

nemō: To manage, allot, or distribute.

νέμω

This element brings out the movement of the trust: what is received is ordered and extended to others.

χάρις

cháris

GROWS FROM

χαρ-

char-

Favor: kindness freely granted.

The favor in this verse is given, then carried onward through a stewardship. Its shape is generous movement: what reaches one person can reach others through them.

ALSO GROWS

charízomai: To grant freely; in some contexts, to forgive or release.

χαρίζομαι

This branch shows favor as an act that freely grants or lets go, rather than something earned and retained.

chárisma: A gift freely given; a gift of favor.

χάρισμα

This branch connects favor with a gift entrusted to be shared, echoing the verse’s movement toward others.

What is received as blessing becomes a trust that reaches others.

And I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse, and in you all the families of the ground will be blessed.
Genesis 12:3 · SDVThe blessing widens through one person until it reaches all families of the earth.
Let a human so count us, as under-rowers of the Anointed One, and as portioners of the sealed things of God.
1 Corinthians 4:1 · SDVWhat is entrusted is carried as a stewardship, meant to be faithfully held and shared.
As each has received a gift, serve it to one another as good stewards of the many-colored favor of God.
1 Peter 4:10 · SDVThe gift each person receives becomes a way of serving others as a steward of God’s favor.
Of which I became a servant, according to the household charge of God given to me for you, to fill the word of God.
Colossians 1:25 · SDV

The same word for stewardship appears here, again joined to something given to one person for others. Its repetition makes the direction of the trust plain: the gift is meant to reach beyond its bearer.
