This verse in the King James

King James wording
Then the king said to the wise men, which knew the times, (for so was the king’s manner toward all that knew law and judgment:

A rule cannot judge itself; wisdom must perceive the moment in which it is applied.

The king seeks people who recognize the time and can weigh a matter under law and judgment. Your decisions, too, take shape where a known measure meets the moment you are actually in.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The verse undoes the belief that knowing the rule makes its application obvious; judgment also depends on perceiving the moment.

1 Chronicles 12:32 · SDVUnderstanding the times opens into knowing what to do, joining perception of the moment with judgment.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 · SDVEach purpose has its fitting time, so discerning what a moment calls for is part of understanding it.
Actors! You know how to test the face of the earth and of the heavens, but how is it that you do not test this season?
Luke 12:56 · SDVThe verse makes recognizing the present time a necessary form of discernment.
And from the children of Issachar, men of discernment for the seasons, to know what Israel should do; their heads were two hundred; and all their brothers were at their mouth.
1 Chronicles 12:32 · SDV

Esther’s “those who know the times” echoes the men with “understanding of the times” in Chronicles. There, perceiving the season opens into knowing what to do, showing that timely awareness is part of judgment, not a detail around it.
