This verse in the King James

King James wording
And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name.

The “thing” that becomes known is ⁨דָּבָר⁩ (dābār, word/matter), the same Hebrew word that names what is spoken, so discovery already carries the possibility of being voiced.

A hidden matter moves from discovery to disclosure: one person recognizes it, another carries it to the king, and the report preserves the first witness’s name. Here the report bears Mordecai’s ⁨שֵׁם⁩ (šēm, name/nature), keeping the witness joined to what is disclosed.

WHAT THIS UNDOES

The belief that truth loses force when it passes through another person’s voice; Esther’s report reaches the king while retaining Mordecai’s name as its source.

הַדָּבָר

ha-dābār

GROWS FROM

דבר

To speak or utter.

The Hebrew noun ⁨דָּבָר⁩ (dābār, word/matter) can name both a matter and a spoken word. The hidden matter enters the verse already joined to what can be said, and its becoming known leads to Esther’s report to the king.

ALSO GROWS

dābār: Word, matter, or thing.

דָּבָר

It is the word translated “thing” in this verse, linking the discovered matter to speech.

dibbēr: He spoke.

דִּבֵּר

This verbal branch makes the connection between a matter and its being spoken explicit.

וַיִּוָּדַע

vayyiwwādaʿ

GROWS FROM

ידע

To know, recognize, or perceive.

“became known” in this verse is vayyiwwādaʿ. The passive form presents the matter as becoming known to Mordecai; he receives recognition of something already there. The same root yields both the act of knowing and the word for knowledge, joining perception to the awareness that carries the report onward.

ALSO GROWS

yādaʿ: To know or recognize.

יָדַע

This is the root verb behind the verse’s “was known,” connecting Mordecai’s awareness to the later report.

daʿat: Knowledge.

דַּעַת

This noun shows knowledge as another growth of the same root that describes the matter becoming known.

A hidden matter crosses into public knowledge when it is disclosed by a witness.

He uncovers the deep and hidden things. He knows what is in the darkness, and the light rests with him.
Daniel 2:22 · SDVWhat is hidden becomes knowable through revelation.
For nothing is hidden that will not be made visible, nor anything concealed that will not be known and come into the light.
Luke 8:17 · SDVThe concealed matter becomes manifest and comes into open knowledge.
But all things being exposed are made visible by the light, for whatever is made visible is light.
Ephesians 5:13 · SDVWhat is hidden is brought into visibility through what reveals it.
After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, Do not fear, Abram. I am your shield, and your very great wages.
Genesis 15:1 · SDV

In Esther, ⁨דָּבָר⁩ (dābār, word/matter) is translated “thing”; in Genesis, the same Hebrew word appears as “word.” The shared root joins the matter Mordecai recognizes to the speech through which Esther makes it known.
